Didn't measure trigger pull weight, but my MP10 trigger was long, gritty, and heavy, I would guess in the 8-10 lb range. Almost everything I don't want in a trigger.

Replaced it with a Geisselle SSA trigger, Super Semi-Automatic (SSA®) Trigger, and so far, couldn't be happier.

If you want something for target/bench use only, take a look at their SSA-E trigger, Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger

Yeah, I hated my trigger pull as well when I first got it. I took the trigger out and looked at the mating surfaces. No wonder it was so chunky... It had paint on the mating surfaces, no polishing was done whatsoever. So I polished mine and it is quite bearable now. I still would like a nicer trigger, but it is good enough now that it will be the last thing I do to it.

Did the same, but even after knocking of the burrs and polishing things, it was smoother but still long and very heavy.
I am sure a JP spring kit would have helped a lot.

I measured mine on a Lyman digital guage. It ran between 6.5 and 7.2 lbs--figure the average was clser to 7 than the 6.5. Replaced the trigger with CMC #3.5 and couldn't be happier.

I worry about messing with the springs. I would hate for it to start causing problems with the hammer not hitting hard enough...

That can be a concern, but with a little trial and error, a proper spring combination can likely be found.

JP Enterprises addresses it on their web site in several places

JP - Safety

JP - Spring Kits ..."Do not use this spring kit for any defense or duty applications or any AR-10 type rifle. Order the JPFC-1T or JPFCP-1T for AR-10, duty or defense applications."

JP - Fire Control System ..."3.5-4.0 pound trigger pull for enhanced reliability and provides good ignition reliability with any ammo. The red hammer spring with yellow trigger spring is also the minimum required for a 308 AR-10 set up.

4-4.5 pound for police duty, military or any application in which 100% ignition reliability is demanded with low sensitivity primers or a heavier release is demanded by LE department requirements. May also be used for 308 AR-10 set ups. Kit includes grey hammer spring with yellow trigger spring. "...

..."Tactical
The tactical spring set includes a full powers (grey) hammer spring and yellow trigger spring. It may be required for agencies that specify a trigger release weight of over 4 lbs mandatory. This set up also insures 100% ignition reliability on both AR-15 and AR-10 type rifles."...

So it looks like a couple of the above trigger group replacements should work, and I am willing to bet that a grey hammer spring with yellow trigger spring would be a good place to start with other makes of trigger groups.

same here, about 7 lbs, and i replaced it with a CMC and love it

Mine is fairly new with only like 40 rounds run through it but the trigger pull is not too bad at 6.4lbs. I will go with a CMC soon but have too many other projects going now.
