I had some issues with a cheap AIM rail made in China. I was going to just leave the front of the M&P15 the way it came from the factory but came across a posting that stated the Troy M4 7" Battlerail was the best made and one that fit the m&P 15 like a glove so I bought one!

Does anyone have any opinions on this rail? Is it in fact the best available for the M&P 15?

The Troy Battle rail is not a bad choice. Although , a very nice rail, the Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 is the best fitting, highest quality free float rail you can buy but they are a bit pricey. That's what I installed on my OR and I couldn't be happier.

It is a good replacement rail and if you are not looking for a free floater, I wouldn't hesitate to use one. Oh wait, I did use a Troy Battlefail for a while. :D

I decided to switch over to the Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 Rail some time ago. I recycle the Troy rail to another AR.

Best made? I wouldn't go that far. Good quality and will do the job. Absolutely.

Best available? There will be many opinions on that.

The military uses the one originally, and maybe still, made by Knight's Armament.

S&W does, or at least did, use Troy rails marked with the S&W logo.

According to Larry Vickers, Daniel Defense makes good stuff.

The bottom line is that if you get the standard carbine length, and if it is well made, it will go right on your rifle without any problems. Cheaply made, out of spec equipment is a pain to install. Don't skimp on your equipment. :)

You can get some good drop in rails for a lot less money than the Troys or DD. American made quality rails. So dont limit yourself to a "name".

Grover, how about some names please? Very interested in your suggestions. Thanks.

I myself have had great luck with the Omega Mfg. They are out of Utah, their product comes with a lifetime warranty. Over a year ago one of the forum members got one and it was slightly out of round, he contacted them and they shipped him a new one and refunded his money including shipping costs. On my present Sport I have a Daniel Defense it is nice but it was a gift as was the rifle. On my original Sport I put the Omega Tactical drop in and loved it. It is on the rifle we sold our preacher and he still loves it. I installed another one on a friends bushmaster and my little brothers Colt all of them very nice and affordable. The only reason I swapped it out on mine was to free float the barrel and I went with a Nordic which I really liked also.

If I were to replace the DD on my Sport I would probably go with the Nordic XL. A lot of this depends upon the rifle that you have but there are quality rails to be had. I tend to go with serviceability and price over a brand name. I am not saying that the Troys, Larues, Daniel Defense or Yankee Hill Machine are bad, they are not but Some of the mounting systems are complicated and a drop in rail is not something that is complicated to make.

I would look at the different styles that Omega Tactical sells. I have found their products to be quality and priced for those of us who don't have deep pockets. They are made from 7075 or T7A aerospace aluminum with a triple anodized hard coating and I have yet to see one fail. The rails are laser T-marked and they have a new "screwless" design which is 3 ounces lighter than their standard quadrail and it also has an extended top rail that goes over the top of the Delta Ring and mates up to your receiver top rail. I am not demeaning anything or anyone, this is my opinion but it is something to think about. :D

Depends upon what you are after. I do not like or have a need for the quad rail design and prefer the leaner modular designs so my first AR (a hunting AR) was bought that way in a Daniel Defense M4V7 which is a mid-length gun with the modular rail I wanted. Their rail is very well made but relatively expensive. For my second AR (a home protection AR) I bought a PSA carbine and installed a Midwest Industries Gen II Series free float rail. It is light, lean at only 1.5" diameter and very well made fitting my rifle perfectly. It allows you to place the modular "rail" pieces where you want them or not at all as does by DD.

Midwest Industries: One Piece FF G2 SS-Series

I just installed the Troy Battle Rail on my AR and it fits great.
Machine quality is excellent, no sharp edges & very solid. What more could you expect?

Notice how the top rail aligns perfectly. I hear lots of other brands don't?
