Hello again. I finally picked up my sport from the store a few days ago and got a chance to tear down to inspect and clean/lube before first outing like senior members suggested on this forum. There was a issue with the rear takedown pin. In all videos and tutorials I've seen the pin can be pushed out of the receiver with just finger pressure but that was impossible with mine. I ended up needing a punch and a hammer with a good bit of force to get it to even start to budge. I oiled it down and let it sit a bit and finally beat the thing out. After taking the lower off the upper I tried pushing pin without the upper on and it smoothly pushed in and out. So I thought it may take a few breakdowns to get it worked in but after about 30 breakdowns trying to get it loose it's still as hard as 1st try. Needs 2 or 3 strong hammer falls on punch to get it going. I notice when putting it back together the pin freely and easily goes in about 3/4 in and then stops. It's almost like the lug on upper the pin goes thru doesn't line up with the hole on lower properly. I read and understand that it's a better problem to have a tight fit then a loose one and that's understandable but can and will this cause issues down the road. I also understand this is a base model ar but I don't think that should matter. I did run 100 rds and the damn thing really surprised me in the accuracy department from 100yds with iron sights unrested. I was shooting -2 inch groups and can't wait to see what it will do with a decent optic on it. But back to my issue would you guys just let the issue be and see if over prolonged use it will work itself out? I am basically using it for target and home defense so I don't think I would need to break it down on the fly but it would be nice to have it available to do it if I needed to. But I am telling you there is NO way in hell that for a million bucks I or anyone could push that pin by hand like they say you should. Let me quit rambling and let you pros take it over. Thanks in advance to any post that may help. Sincerely Jason 😃

I have the same problem man!! I beat it out and I have to beat it to go back in as well! It doesn't line up you can clearly see it. I didn't want to send my gun off when I got it last week but I can see its not getting any better so I guess I'm going to have to..,

My Sport was tight at first, but after a few range trips, it loosened up where I can pull it by hand.

My front pin was tough at first, however if you don't need force, it's usually the upper and lower that need to be on a flat surface

Mine was (REALLY) tight for the first couple take downs too. It should get better, tight is good.

Just a thought though. RARE... Your detent pin could be in upside down ??? If you are fairly handy, take the handgrip off. There is an allen screw inside the grip. You want the weapon with the flash hider facing to your right, stock to your left, laying on it's side. BE VERY CAREFULL !!! Hold the grip TIGHT to the weapon as you loosen the screw. Once the screw is completely loose, SLOWLY work the hand grip away from where it attaches to the lower frame (it slides over the metal like a "shoe" and is fairly tight. BE CAREFULL.there is a small spring in the top of the grip that holds the "detent" in place, that holds the take down pin in place. DON'T loose that spring. Once loose, pull the grip and spring down (KEEPING THE WEAPON ON IT'S SIDE). There is a small detent pin inside that hole where the spring came out. Tip the weapon up and let that pin fall into your hand. Now make sure the pointed end of the pin goes back into the hole first and slide the spring in behind it. GENTLY slide the grip back onto the lower and BE VERY CAREFUL to SLOWLY work the spring back into the grip hole as you push it all back together at a slight angle. Take your time. Fun part is holding it all together while getting the allen screw back in the bottom of the handgrip. :) That "might" be the problem. My pin came out had,but not hammer and punch hard.

Mine was super tight also. I used a punch and hammer first 20 times. I also put some dry lube in the holes and on the pins. I can do it by hand now but I take mine apart all the time out of boredom curiosity etc. It will free up. Give it time.

If the detent was upside down wouldn't it be hard to push the pin in and out on the lower alone without the upper attached? It goes in and out effortlessly without upper attached. I am like Jat3 also in that I love to tinker and learn about all the ends and outs of each weapon I own so I will give your hypotheses a try Maddmax. Thanks and I'll keep everyone informed of the outcome. Jason

I am having this same problem on my front takedown pin on my new MOE MP15. Very right! I'll need to look at it closer when I get some time.

My pivot pin is great. Back pin a bull.

Mine too. I sharpened a wooden peg so I could use that as a punch rather than a metal punch. After the first few times needing to hammer the pin, I can now push it with the wooden punch by hand. I still cant just push the pin with no help, but it has absolutely loosened a bit.

Enjoy your rifle.

A problem exists if and only if the lower or the upper are out of spec, and the holes for the pins do not line up at all. No amount of tapping or pushing will get a pin to seat. IMO, better that the hing pin and take down pin start out tight then loosen over time.

What I did: I squeezed the upper and lower together, then pushed in the pin. After a few field strips everything is worn in just right.

If the detent was upside down wouldn't it be hard to push the pin in and out on the lower alone without the upper attached? It goes in and out effortlessly without upper attached.

You would think it would.

It's the "Beating it in and out with a hammer and punch" that made me wonder about it. I never had to get that radicial about it although it was very stiff. :)

The front pin isn't that critical. Mine was tight and I just left that one alone. Better not having to worry about that one unexpectedly "walking out".

Thanks guys. I'll run her until it loosens by itself and if I have to I will just keep something in my case to break it down if needed. Again, thanks for the info.
