I want to buy a rifle sling for S&W AR. What a good sling to but for it? I want something strong and solid, and easy on my shoulder!!

I like simple things, like the USGI type slings. USA Slings in Tennessee offers multiple colors and though Blackhawk seems to have discontinued their version, they can still be found.

I modified an AK sling for an AR for a friend. I replaced the 1/2” wide leather ends with pieces cut from a 1” wide dog collar and secured them with Chicago screws.

I like the Blue Force Gear, Vickers sling, I prefer the padded version but the have multiple kinds. They have a quick adjust loop, are both single or two point.
These are all I buy anymore.

What a good sling you can buy off of amazon?

General purpose military straps work good. You can clip them on or tie them on.

I've seen them on Amazon and Ebay. I've got a few.

Magpul or Blue Force. Depends on if you want QD, or Paraclip too. I would (depending on your AR setup) change out the receiver base plate to Magpul's ASAP and add a QD or Paraclip attachment to your foreend. I prefer options, so I have the Magpul MS3

This is the setup I have on my Sport II, and similar on other rifles (QD though).

Some good suggestions here. I ask however if you are primarily interested in a sling that makes carrying more comfortable or one that doubles as a good shooting sling.

Then there's single point (IMHO, lousy choice), two point or three point. If you just want something to lug it around, there's lots of good 2 point slings. Warning: Uncle Mikes have gotten really, really, cheaply made. I'd skip those.

All of my AR platforms use standard black webbing / blackened brass buckle GI slings. I guess I never saw anything wrong with that set-up during my service period.

I like GI M1 slings. I prefer the cotton to the later nylon ones. The black so-called "silent slings" that the Army started issuing in the mid-Seventies were not to my taste.

All the single-point and other fancy stuff never got my attention enough to try them.

Slings are like many other pieces of gear, and have been developed to the point where some are pretty mission specific. If you just want something to hang the gun over your shoulder, a typical 2 point will work just fine. If you want it to facilitate carrying the rifle for competition or combat where shooting in dynamic situations is likely, a single point, or one of the CQB type slings would be a good choice. For positional target shooting, there are quick adjust slings for that as well.

I carried single point slings for quite a while because they worked well with the external vests and gear we carried on them and made switching to the off side quick and easy. Just before I retired, I started using the Magpul MS3 sling and I like it a lot. Can be used 2 point or single point, and is quickly adjustable for length. Now that I'm retired, I don't worry as much about having a bulky vest with gear on it, but the MS3 sling still works pretty well for the shooting I do.

1907 leather sling does it all. Not tacticool but checks all the blocks for function and durability.

I'm with Rodan: what are you planning to do with it? Otherwise the question is sort of like "What are the best tires for my truck?"

Around here, the target guns use one kind of sling; the 10.5" pistols use another (another vote for Blue Force Gear Vickers slings, both padded and not) and the tiny blowback AR pistols use yet another. Can you give us more detail about how you're going to use this gun?
