My local Acadamy Sports store is 60 miles away. I have been wanting an SD40 (Not an SD40VE) and my local A.S. had one in stock. I waited a couple of days before going to buy it. Just my luck, they had sold it a day prior to me getting there. I asked when they will be getting more in stock, they said a week up to 2 months. They said the wait time was due to the virus pandemic.
Honestly, I'm tired of everyone using this virus for excuses!
Anyway, I gave them my info and they will be calling me when they get a shipment.

Just in case you didn't already know, the only significant differences between the SD40 and SD40VE are the black melonite FNC treated slide and a tritium front sight.
Tritium sights for the M&P fit the SD and can often be found for rather cheap, so unless the melonite slide is a deal-breaker, you might just want to buy an SD40VE and a Tritium front sight.

Also, keep an eye out for police trade-in M&P40s on sites like Aimsurplus and century arms, as they often show up periodically for anywhere from $225-299 and make for an excellent value.

That being said, the panic buyers really are the worst and why humanity seemingly cannot learn to prepare for trouble before it arrives at their doorstep no matter how many disasters they live through is beyond my comprehension.
On the bright side though, more firearms owners means more potential Second Amendment Supporters because obviously most of them are going to want to keep their guns after COVID-19, and thus when anti-gun legislation is inevitably pushed, these folks are more likely to take action since it actually affects them now.

Just won one on GunBroker last night. $340 w/shipping. More than I wanted to pay but these are getting harder to come by (FDE/Blk slide). Also, not all come with tritium sights, mine will have standard 3 dot sights. I already have the SD9 FDE and got it on clearance at the local Rural King. Still some available on Gunbroker...

I thought everyone had learned by now to buy it when you SEE it.

My only gun regrets are ones I did NOT buy.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!
I have lost so many "deals" because I wanted to research the item and current price. Then go back the next day (or sometimes later same day) and find it already gone.
In the case of the SD9 FDE, I caught it on clearance and bought the last one they had. They also ran the SD40 FDE, but sadly at the time, I didn't have the funds :( I already have the SD9VE/SD40VE, now will have the SD9/SD40 FDE. If I add the cost of the 2, then divide that number; I won't feel so bad about what I spent on the pair lol.

On the money part of this hobby ..... it's like when I played golf a lot.

Golf was lots cheaper when I take the greens fees plus cart rental and divide that amount by the number of STROKES -- not the number of HOLES played.

First of all, the NEW SD9/SD40 have HI-VIZ sights (notice the HI-VIZ sights on my SD9 in the pic below), a more aggressive textured grip, and a better trigger than the SDVE models.
Also, IMHO, the silver slide looks VERY CHEESY on the SDVE models.
BTW, these guns are ONLY sold at Academy Sporting goods. They made a deal with S&W to sell them there exclusively.

When I wanted the SD40, I had my sights set on the FDE model. Really like the black on the tan frame. They didn't have them in stock, but had them online. Instead of using credit card, I bought a gift card for the exact amount with cash, then ordered online to ship to store. Picked it up in a few days.

Mine was standard white dot sights. I ordered a set of the TruGlo TFO's and installed on mine. Absolutely love them.

It does however look like they are out of stock online also. Demand is high right now.

Check the webpage frequently, if your model shows up as option to ship to store, order it. Seems like you get an email when it arrives.

I have seen several different options for sale. Plain white dot, fiber optic, tritium and also a laser as an option. Depends on how much you want to spend at the time.

The SDVE may be cheesy looking but if it is a hide a gun, it doesn't matter to me. They shoot the same as the fancier ones. The SD/Sigma series make great guns to place in strategic places at the price point.

Just checked and if it is in stock at your local store, you can order online to pickup in store also. That way you don't have to drive down there to see if they have it and then be disappointed.

Just picked up my SD40 FDE yesterday from FFL. No surprises, since I already have the SD9/40VE and the SD9 FDE. Just wanted to add to the collection lol. Now I have to decide if I want to add the Gray version and have a trio :-) These are just good, solid, reliable pistols. I see then on sale locally for $279-$299; CDNN has them now at $269.
