After trying to find a S&W 3914 with a round trigger guard locally for a loooong time I bought a used p239 at Cabelas yesterday for $450. Gun is 9mm and 99%. Came with box n xtra mag. Got it home and found it has "short" trigger option installed. That's perfect for me. Gun seems a bit larger and heavier to me than a 39xx. Any opinions on that?

I have a 239 in .40, and I agree, it is a bit heavy, but it has been 100% flawless since I've owned it.

Had them both & the P239 is heavier & thicker than the 3913..
As far as reliability there both great pistols & the P239 should serve you very well..
Congrats..

I have both a 3913 and a P239. As said, the Sig is a little wider and heavier.
My P239 has been flawless; the only thing is I have to use a dead-on aim with the 239 vs. a 6 O'clock aim with the 3913 to avoid shooting low (which is pretty common for most Sigs).

I have the same, 239 w/ short trigger installed. Very accurate and one of the softest shooters I have owned. Out of my 10 autos I have owned the 239 is one of two I kept after deciding to prune my bottom feeders (the other is a G19); I really do not need any other autos, IMO (those sold include larger Sigs, Glocks, a 1911 and a baby Glock).

SIGs do require the "sight on point of aim" rather than 6 'o'clock sight picture. I prefer the standard bar- dot Sig sight configuration.

Congrats

Thanks for replies. I was looking for a 3914, or a Sig239 in .40. Around here they would normally price out $425 $550 respectively used. The $450 tag on the Sig did me in even though it's 9mm. If I can trade to a Sig239 .40 in the future I'll probably go that way. The only autos I have left are the p239, a Glock 19, a Browning BDA .380, a Systema Colt, and a Beretta 21a .22. I carry a Colt Cobra mostly.

Sig P239 vs S&W 3913

I have both a P239 40cal and a 3913. Like the other guys said, "the sig is a tad larger", however, the Sig is a wonderful ccw and is everything you could ever want in a weapon for PD. I'm new to the 3913 but after some more practice and reliability checking I'm going to give it a go at ccw if it pans out.

My P239 40 S&W is very accurate and while a little heavy it makes a great carry gun.

According to some old Smith 3913 and new Sig specs the 239 is about 4oz. heavier with mags empty. The Sig 228 I had used a "folded steel" slide with a hardend breech block pinned in. I'll bet the double stack 228 and 239 weigh about the same empty. I know... who cares.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the SIG 239 is designated as such - given the 391x's. (Though, at the same time, it also reminds me of an improved Walther P5.)

The front of the grip feels a bit square to me on the 239, which is a vast difference from any other SIG.

Agree. Thicker and a bit heavier. Trigger is serviceable but nothing to write home about.

If you haven't previously owned a Sig Sauer pistol you might visit the website and browse among the maintenance clips and the preventative maintenance guide provided by the company.

Some folks fail to recognize that sufficient lubrication is very important for Sig pistols. The common description of sufficient lubrication when discussed in the armorer class is that amount which can be verified by sight & touch. The instructor in my class made no bones about Sig's being 'wet guns'.

Good guns, though.

If I couldn't own a 3913 and yet wanted a metal-framed, single stack TDA 9mm, the P239 would be my choice.

Congrats.

I've had 239s in both 9mm and .357 Sig. Strong, reliable guns, although slightly wider that a 3913, which is what I carry now. I'm not sure without checking technical data, but subjectively, I don't think the 239 weighs significantly more than a 3913.

I have a P239 in 40/357 and it has been 100% reliable. It was my small concealed carry pistol until the M&P40c came along.

I have P-239 in 9mm. It is a very nice CC pistol. I especially like the 'minimal' sized grips that are standard on the P-239.

I own several Sigs, and they do like to run 'wet'.

I use a light silicone/Teflon grease on the slide rails.

I like the P-239 for is smaller size, and my 6906 for it's larger capacity; it also has a nicer DA trigger, while the SA trigger on the P-239 is little nicer than the SA trigger on my 6906.

All semiautos have their own 'personality'.

And, I STILL want a 3913, if i could find a nice one at a reasonable price.

Many, many people seem to have discovered that the 3913 is one of the very best CCW available today.

I wish S&W would make them again. In a year or two, there would be nice shiny 'almost new' ones on the used market.

I have a 3914 and love it. It inspired me to buy my 3953 TSW thinking the slick slide would be better for waist band carry. The problem was my department wouldn't authorize the S&W for carry. So now I bought a P239 and I'm selling the 3953 to help pay for the gun. I'm never getting rid of the 3914, it feeds every thing. If you could get rocks into the magazine the 3914 will feed them. The p239 feels thicker and left a chose I'd take it over the Sig. For the record I've carried a Sig as a duty weapon for 21 yrs with no problems.

While almost all Sigs are fine guns, I've found the only one I really cherish is the P239. Love it, especially the SAS DAK version. Alot of people flame the P239 for its single stack, weight, and size...all positives for me.

For me, the 3913/14 edges out the P239, but not by any wide margin. Just personal preference.

The P-239 in .357sig has been my primary CC pistol for the past few years. Didn't care for the stock grips so it sports Hogue grips now. It is a bit hefty though. Recently purchased a CS9 with only 50 rounds through it from a co-worker who's retiring and moving to CA. Took it to the range a few times already, what a sweet shooter. Waiting for the IWB holster to arrive. I'm thinking the CS9, being thinner and lighter, may be my new primary CC piece. We'll see.

I just traded into a Sig P239 SAS Generation 2 with night sights, in the box, with 3 mags. The price on them has increased dramatically in the past few months and new ones are going for about $875.00, minus tax and call in with 2 mags. Considering that mags run approximately $40/each, I got a normal deal on mine. I've got about $910.00 total invested in it.

I had a Sig P239 .40 S&W and did not like the recoil or size of it. I sold it and bought a P225 9mm and am much happier. I have a S&W #908 that I carry a good bit of the time.

The P239 is at the bottom of the photo. My BHP .40 S&W and son's HK P7 9mm are the other two pistols in the photo.

Have a 9mm conversion barrel for my 239 forty, flawless in 9 or 40, I do use Sig 9 mags when I use the 9 barrel.
