S&W 2213 "Promo" Markings

Good evening,

I picked-up a second 2213 and on the box it is labeled "Promo". Besides the trigger, safety, and latch being silver instead of black on my other 2213, there are several odd markings on either side of the phrase "22 Long Rifle CTG" (see photograph). Does anybody know what these markings represent and why the box would be labeled with the feature "Promo"?

S&W has been putting "22 Long Rifle CTG" on it's 22 handguns for a long time. CTG is short for cartridge. I believe the classic 22 revolvers all have that. Not sure about the markings. I cannot remember if my 422 had it on there or not. I am guessing your gun was part of a promotion run and is either an early model or a late model. Early models tend to have silver (flash chromed) parts where later models have MIM black parts. What is the range of the 2 serial numbers (from the 2213's you own)? And by the way, stop buying up 2213's so the rest of us can find one!

The "promo" 2213 is TYR99XX and the other 2213 with the black MIM parts is UBA34XX. Both 2213's came with the holster and the blue carry case.
Thanks for responding to my inquiry and I think they are a great gun to carry in the woods, fishing. etc...

Yep, that's a pretty good spread between serial numbers. Smith & Wesson tends to make minor changes and upgrades as guns are in production. Enjoy your 2213's!

if I am correct the promo means that it was a promotional item sent to dealers, but I could be wrong I need to unpack the 'bible' and double check

Both my 2213's came with the blue S&W logo case/rug with the Uncle Mike's holster as shown in the pictures. I read that this was originally called the Sports-man Value Package and was introduced at the 1992 Shot Show.
