I like the 3rd gen Smiths, but as we all know sometimes a holster is tough to find. This begs the question, what newer model pistols are the same size and shape as the 3rd gens and would thier holsters be compatible?

For example: 3913 same as a???? 5906 same as a ?????

I know the 5900 and 4000 series share the same frame so holsters should be compatible with like sized models, ex: 5906, 4006, 5946, 4046. The 1000 and 4500 series share the same frame and would be the same situtation, ex: 1006 and 4506, or 1066 and 4566. I called Andrew's Leather a couple months ago and they do make one for the 4566 and said he could even make one for my 4566TSW with rail. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I was thinking more about compatibilty across companies. For ex. What Sig is the same holster as a 3913, what Springfield is the same as a Smith M&P.

I've found that holsters for the Sig 220 work well with the 4566.

Sig 226 holsters generally work with the 5900 and 4000 series pistols as well.

Sig 228/229 usually work with the 6906, 4013 and 4516.

Sig 239 holster works with my 3913, as does the Glock 23 holster.

Glock holsters will work for many of the same dimensioned 3rd generation guns as well. Regards 18DAI.

Forgot...My M&P .40 & 45 Fullsize ride in a Glock 20-21 holster and fit as though they were made for each other. An M&P 9mm compact fits quite well into my HK 2000 holster as well.
