I've been having some feeding problems, and someone suggested cleaning the magazine. I have three 10 round MecGar magazines for my SW1911DK. The bottom is flat with a small half round hole just above the base in the front center line of magazine. How do I get these apart to clean?

Thank you.

Magazine disassembly

They do not come apart in the traditional case where a floor plate (removable) is on the bottom of the magazine.

There is a sticky on the 1911 forum that explains how to take the magazine apart. First is to depress the follower down and using a nail or small screw driver to keep the follower in place. Next shake out the follower. Next, remove the magazine spring taking note of how the spring came out so that it can be replaced. Clean the magazine body with volatile solvent. Wipe out all residue. Replace the spring and depress it into the body using a wooden dowell or a substitute. Then before releasing the spring use the screw driver or nail to hold the spring in place. Make sure there is enough clearance above the spring to return the follower. When follower is in place, release the spring.

Two other methods can be used. Throw the magazine in the trash and purchase a replacement.

The other possibility is to move the follower down a short distance and hold the spring in place. Now using aersol cleaner spray over a trash can. Direct the cleaner on as many surfaces as possible. Let dry on its own or use an air hose to dry.

www.1911forum.com look at top of page for how to stickies and FAQ.

An addendum to throwing away the dirty magazine. Replacements having floor plates should be bought.

I hope this helps.

Jed, thank you. I had seen the thread referenced above, but didn't see how to get the follower out. I'll look where you indicated and hopefully will see the light.

Thanks again.
