i might need to add an accessory rail to a handgun under the bbl. anyone have an idea of the cost. the gun is a S&W 4006.
the 4006TSW are harder to find so i might need to modify the regular 4006.

thanx,
TB

I would suggest just getting a 4006TSW, as I would think the cost of adding a rail would be very pricey. There are several listed on GB, and I think Summit Gunbroker has a bunch of used ones for sale (looks like 9 in the pic). Believe they are starting at $375.

You may want to call S&W customer service and inquire if it is possible to add a rail to a standard 4006.

IIRC someone here called S&W inquiring about putting a rail on a standard 4566 and was told they could not, as the dust cover was not thick enough.

TSW dust covers do appear to be thicker. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

I called S&W once and asked if this could be done on a 5906. They said, "No." I assume the answer is the same for the 4006.

I think you are correct. I seem to recall reading that S&W beefed up the frame in that area in order to mount the rail and carry the light/laser. The only guns I like that have rails are the SW series. They are integral to the frame and not sticking out like a sore thumb, ala railed TSW guns. JMHO.

They are hard to find and pricey when you do, but S&W did make some integral rail TSW's. I believe they wereonly initially available to military & law enforcement.
