Review with a new Trijicon RMR02

I am not promoting any particular gun or sight. I hope this review might help someone with similar problems as mine. Not that I have any problems.

I bought an M&P9c a few months ago. Installed the full APEX Kit and Trigger. Love it. However, I am 65 in good shape and health but have had a slight muscle tremor since my 20's. Has not gotten worse but will never have to worry about being in competition. My first problem was getting use to shooting with a slight movement.

Second, I have an ear disease called Meneire's Disease. Cetain things can trigger it and give me vertigo. I have not had vertigo for over 15 years. This is not age related because I got it at about age 40.

Third problem was that my close up vision and my distance vision are not perfect. Not real bad but not perfect. Like a lot of shooters if I focus on the sight at the front of the barrel the rear sight is not in focus and the further the target the more out of focus the target is. I talked to Decot about prescription glasses and they recommended Bifocals that were reversed with the bifocal on the top. That did not excite me at all.

So I went to the local FOP Range outdoors and tried shooting with my prescription sunglasses that are set up for distance vision which I use mostly for driving. Boy was that fun. After one mag of 12 I took the glasses off and the world started moving on me. I closed my eyes for a few minutes and everything settled down.
My boss said he had friends that had that problem when they used predcription glasses that had a lot of curvature to them which mine do. I went to my Optometrist and he did not think that was the problem. He thought it was from wearing glasses designed to focus at a distance and I was using them to focus at inches away at the front sight. Then when I took the glasses off my eyes were telling my brain things were not normal. My wife's been telling me that for years.

I thought I was in good health until I reread the above. Now I am really depressed. I know this is long but may help someone.

I read somewhere, I think Massad Ayoob, said with a Red Dot Sight you visually fixed on the target and let the dot fall in place.
So I had an RMR02 with Suppressor Sights installed and got it back last Saturday. I have been to the range twice. I shot 4 mags of 12 the first outing and 10 mags of 12 yesterday.
I wore my Prescription Sunglasses, designed for distance vision, both outings. I never had a problem with vertigo at all.
I also was able to see the target, because of the prescription, and had no trouble with the dot falling in line for aiming.
And this is with a prescription that is 9 years old. I just got a new prescritption but did not want to order new lenses until I got everything worked out. I was also trying not to order multiple pairs of glasses.
Now I am going to have new distance vision lenses made with the proper material for shooting. This way I can still wear them in the daytime as regular sunglasses and also shoot with them. This has worked so well in my case that I bought a 45c a week ago and am going to set it up exactly the same way.

I was a long time proponent of keep it simple and all iron sights for me.

In January, I went to some carbine training and those who had red dots shined while I could barely keep up with irons (in the area of speed or firing the first shot at all distances)

I bought a AP Micro Dot and have been happy ever since.

Now comes handgun....and I have always been one for accuracy and like the .125" rear notch that offers decent accuracy at extended distances.

Nearing 50, I am finding it more difficult to break the first shot in my duty carry (5" 1911) compared to Glocks. I have come to the realization that it is my eyesight....so I went to a wider notch rear (.140") and painted my front sight to find it quicker.

a co worker put a Leupold Dot on his MP45 and I was able to fire a few round down range. my comments to this set up are not so desirable in the area of looks, but DAMN this is the ticket for quick and accurate combat type shooting.

Now I have to find the $$$$ and a gun for this type of conversion!!!!

I prefer the rear sight location as you have it on yours. did Bowie do your conversion?

No, originally I was going to have Doug at ATEi perform the work but he did not have any RMR's and I would have had to buy it and send it seperately.
So I used Mark Housel (L&M Precision Gunworks, LLCWhere Precision is an attitude, not just a word) who had the RMR02 in stock and had a package price on the entire work. He milled the slide and supplied and mounted the RMR. He milled the front for the taller suppressor sights, supplied them and installed them. He also refinised the slide where it was milled. He then (because I sent the barrel and spring with the slide) bore sighted the slide for me. All of this is on his website as a package or broke down if you don't want everything. Because I was going on a shooting trip (which ended up canceled because of work at the last minute) I sent it to him on a Monday and received it back on that Saturday.
So the reason I used him out of the three who all have great reputations was the fact he had the RMR in stock and it made it simple.
I then had Dale Fricke make a holster that covers the sight for protection. It fits like a glove.

In the last few weeks, I was trying to figure out how I was going to deal with prescription glasses. I'm 58, nearsighted, and it's bad enough that I had to have the glasses off to see the front sight, but then the target is so blurry, even at 5 yards, I was having a hard time. (In real life, I have the glasses on all the time). So if confronted with an aggressor, of course I can't be messing around with glasses, either going on or off. Thanks for this post, ttyndall, this let me "see the light" so to speak. It turns out that my oldest son has a paintball gun with a rds on it, so I got to take a look. I can see how it solved your problem. Now I just have to figure out which one to get and who to have install it, I'm definitely going to take your setup and L&M Precision into serious consideration. By the way, I'm also using an M&P 9c, very nice pistol.
