Sight dovetail compatability/specs
Some Bersas can use some Sig sights. That's all I know about this subject. Makes me wonder, though:
Is there a big chart somewhere that shows the dovetail specs (side angles, depth, and bottom width) of most pistols, or a simplified listing of what else can be used in any particular pistol?
Right now, I'm most interested in 3rd gen S&Ws, but it'd be nice to have 'all' of that data in one place . . . .

Dunno, but I'd be interested in one, myself.

I used to fit Bomar adjustable sights into Colt gov mod slides and my cutters were on 30 deg. I roughed out the slot and finished the dove tail cuts with the cutter and fit for a tight slip fit. Most sights IIRC had a set screw to lock in place althogh the Bomars had to be drilled and tapped 8-40 for the elevation adj screw. But there was no chart that I remember each one had to be fit. Jeff

The S&W "Novak" style sights I believe have a proprietary cut. I do know that front sights from gen3 and M&P's will interchange. I suspect the rear will as well, but I haven't tried it.

Yup, for whatever reason, S&W decided to go with their own special dovetails on the 3rd gens.
S&W sights:
front 74° x .250" rear 74° x .435"
Most everyone else' sights:
front 65° x .330" rear 65° x .495"
Not many folks still making sights for these guns. Nowadays you're down to XS Sights, Novak's & Trijicon, with LPA making a pretty nice adjustable rear replacement.
Cheers
Bill

1911 Rear Sight Dovetail
I have a S&W 1911 I was thinking of putting a Burris Fastfire II on. Anyone know whether Burris's 1911 base will fit the dovetail?
Pistol is a 108282.
Thanks
Hal

4006, 5903, 5906, 3913, Chief Special 9mm use the same sights, according to XS systems docs. I've been using Dawson Precision FO front sights (for 5906)
on some of my 3d Gen 9mm's (3913/14, 3953, CS9 )
.

The 908 and 457 have yet another size dovetail different from other 3d gens. I have no idea why.
Are there any differences in sight height between models?

M&P 9c is the rear sight dovetail novak cut?
I have a Smith-Wesson M&P 9c and would like to upgrade the sights. I have a Trijicon rear sight with Novak cut. What I need to know for sure before I press out the rear sight is if the rear dovetail is Novak cut. I do not want to send the gun off; I have been doing my own work since I was a teenager. Any info is appreciated.

In pretty sure it's not a Novak cut. On the third gen guns, which had Novak brand sights, the dovetail was a proprietary S&W cut. I know for fact that the gen 3 and M&P front cuts are the same and suspect the same of the rears.

Good info, I have always wanted to add hi-viz type front sights to a few of my 3rd gens, or to modify POA/POI now just need all front sight height specs
This thread will be good future reference material.
