Recently purchased this lovely little pistol, put a couple hundred rounds through it and then problems began. It began failing to feed. Cleaned the gun and problem persisted. Noticed the slide was lifting up and surmised this is the problem. Anyone have a solution?? Love this semi for plinking, dead accurate, light and easy to clean. Just need to get this problem fixed if possible.

Helppppp,,,:)

First check the barrel nut. May be loose. Get the tool from EWK if it's loose.

I too have searched the net for the "4% problem." I even have the special tool to tighten or remove the nut. Slide is still lifting up over the magazine/next bullet while trying to cycle. A post here or direct via email would be so much appreciated.

I see this thread is old but who better to ask than S&W forum [fan] members? [email protected]

ps: Alcazar I wanted to reach you on other forums but was not a member for PM or email :-(

Try a different mag in that gun. I believe its the same Mag as a M46 or M41. Could be a tired spring in it which is hanging up.

Thanx Barrie

The gun only came with one mag. I bought 6 more genuine S&W mags NIB to shoot steel with. Old Mag / new mags - same results.
I'm gonna see just how tight I can get that barrel nut and give it a go next Sunday.

They are a nice pistol and fun to shoot. Should be a minor repair I suspect.

Got out all the 2206 gear I have for this pistol. I have the thread adapter and a nifty tool to tighten/loosen the barrel nut the tool worked great. Too great. Seemed like it turned endlessly until the nut was finally tight and the tool popped off for lack of a good bite on the slots. The muzzle looked kinda funny with the nut so far back but I directed my attention the the original problems.

The slide was no longer able to lift out of it's rails [which caused the FTFs and FTEs] but now none of the mags will lock into place. I think maybe there was a spacer or lock washer behind the barrel bushing at one time and this barrel nut adjustment is the way to tune all three things for a perfect compromise. That's my "hopeful guess."

Unfortunately my tool will not back the nut out because it is not fully biting into the nut. I made a tool from a penny as described here but I had to go so deep that the penny teeth were too long and soft. They bent easily and became useless.

Any ideas out there?

Buy a cheap socket (craftsman comes to mind) the correct diameter, and grind it so you have protruding "teeth" the correct size and shape. I have done this to make tools for cars as well as guns. I finish it up with a file or two for a good fit.

There is no tuning, just a lock washer that goes behind the barrel nut. The barrel is limited in the forward travel by the frame of the pistol. I would strip the slide off, insert a mag, and see if you can determine what is holding it up.
