A very good friend of mine just returned from New Hampshire. His wife had a family emergency there so they had to settle some family business, which also included an estate sale.
Part of the estate sale was a collection of firearms. One in particular he brought home was a S&W 4566 with the letters "NHSP" stamped on it. I am guessing it is an issued New Hampshire State Troopers firearm.
My friend knows nothing about its history or even knew it was in the family collection. Anyway, he called me and knew I might be interested in it. It is in pristine condition and has (6) mags with it. He knows I can't afford it right now but has promised to hold it for me until I can come up with enough money to pay for it.
Can anyone give me an about price I should offer him for it? And, could it be a LEO issued pistol?

Sorry, but the title of my post should read "NHSP."

Hmmm, I would wish to think that a couple of letters are in the wrong order for it to be New Hampshire, but am posting here mostly because I wish to see what others come up with. NHSP would (seemingly?) make more sense as New Hampshire, rather than NSHP.

Price depends very much upon condition. The six magazines certainly have value. If it is in fine working shape but not mint and ends up being a former LE issued handgun with the kind of wear that such a gun would indicate, I would say that $500 is a middle-road price considering the added value of all the magazines.

But that is merely a shot in the dark guess without knowing condition, history, etc etc.

One thing for sure if you do end up with the pistol...
$50 to Roy Jinks and he would be able to tell you for sure if it was sent to an LE organization... and which, where and exactly when it was sent.

ZING!
Caught in a post edit!
:)
First paragraph of my post is hereby stricken from the record. ;)

It does indeed sound like a NH State Police pistol. I think he had a Police trade in as NHSP has transitioned to an M&P Series pistol, all to the best of my knowledge.
Ask what he will accept before you make an offer. I dont think it was purchased locally for more than $475 to $495. The extra mags add value.
