Default 1006 trigger question

My very first post here. I have two new to me 1006 s&w. When firing in single action one has a fairly long continues pull before firing. The other one about half way through the pull has a let off in resistance and a faint audible click then continuing the pull fires. I like this because I know more precisely when it's going to fire. Was there two different factory trigger pull set ups, maybe depending on year of mfg? Or possibly did someone have a trigger job done to make it this way? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

Search "trigger play spring" on this Forum to find the cause and cure for your trigger click.
It's a fairly common problem with a relatively simple solution.

These threads should cover what you need.

New to Me 4566 has a clicking problem

Trigger clicking in Mod 457?

Hopefully your's isn't broken, just loose, & you can rebend/tighten it.

Wink 1006 trigger click fixed

Yessir the trigger play spring was it! Took it over to my shop this morning and with a plastic pic gently eased both sides of the spring forward just a little. The mid trigger pull click is gone. Thanks to all and also the picture from sw cqb 45 really helped! So much for my thinking I picked one up with a high dollar trigger job!

Had the same click on my 4566TSW and did the bending forward thing; it worked for a while and is back. I believe metal fatigue sets in at some point and eventually the spring ($3-4 at Numrich) will need to be replaced. If you do go that route, there is a small rivet that also will need to be replaced, and I don't recall if that comes with the spring, or needs to be added to the order.

As a S&W technician told me about 9 years ago, you should always get three rivets for each trigger play spring. "Those little guys get lost real fast." I told him that I was using a file on edge set in a vice to provide support for the head of the rivet as I set it in the draw bar with a small punch. He told me with a chuckle that they use the same approach in "the shop." By the way, the new trigger play springs (rev. 4, I think) are a big improvement and will last a very long time. Good luck.

I'm still baffled at why I have never experienced this issue in any S&W 9mm and my earliest one was made in 1964... but the first time I pick up a fairly clean but formerly issued 4566TSW, it's not only present, but horrific, and I asked my buddy to replace that spring for me.

Around 1992 I helped a very good friend of mine pick out a 4566 at his LGS. After he fired a couple boxes of ammo, he sold it to me in around 1995. I shot it a little bit and then traded it to my brother a year or so later. My brother shot it quite a bit. I got it back from him in a trade in 2007. I completely disassembled it replaced a few springs, parts and cleaned/lubricated it. I noticed he had broken off one of the fingers of the trigger play spring. He like many others are a little bit overly zealous about cleaning around those fingers. I also got his 4516-1 that suffered from the same rough use of Q-Tips (or a patch wrapped around a small screwdriver). Later I picked up a 3913 from a retired police officer. Apparently, he cleaned his 3rd Gens in a manner similar to my brother. As you can see, I've had a little experience replacing the trigger return spring.
