Default S&W 52-2 with BOMAR RIB

I recently purchased a 52-2 at a good price as it was well used and has a BOMAR sight rib on the slide. The problem - When I went to the range, the slide spring was so weak that it would not feed reliably. The 52-2 came with three slides so I put the 'standard' spring in the firearm. Now if feeds but after firing the case stays in the chamber, but the next round comes up behind the spent case and the slide, of course cannot feed. If this were a gas gun, I would replace the extractor, but this is not, so I am puzzled. I purchased a new set of springs from Wolff, but have not had a chance to get back to the range. Loads are 2.6gr of Bullseye behind a 148 double ended wadcutter. Any help would be appreciated. I know that finding a new slide would be very difficult.

Your 52-2 came with "3 slides" or 3 springs ?

I had a Model 52-2 and a 52-1 both with Bomar ribs and they both ran perfect, If your gun is not extracting spent cases from the chamber I would be taking a very close look at the extractor spring and claw.

I am not an expert on the 52 but it sounds like your load is on the light side especially for a double ended wadcutter, try 2.8-2.9 grains of Bulleye with a 148 grain wadcutter. You might also try either Federal, Win or Rem factory ammo if you can find it. Good luck.

I'm with Troy. 2.6 grains of Bullseye is very light and is probably 90% or more of the problem.

Agree - 2.8 has been the standard model 52 load since it came on the market. But it also sounds like there could be an extractor spring issue as well.

Upping the load is the easiest thing to try - if not - good luck
