Model 3954: only 1000 produced?

A. The 3954 is a rare model, making it more valuable to collectors.
B. It's in California, where firearms tend to cost a lot more.

Now for the equation:
A+B=$$$$$$$$$$

Would love a 3954! Here in MA, just like CA, its ultra rare and very expensive. I would most likely pay the extra to own one.
From what I've heard the 3953/3954 has a pretty good DAO trigger pull.

IMHO it is better then just "pretty good", they are the best!

Been carrying my 3953 since I got it new in 1991.

Is the only difference between the 3953 & the 3954 is one is stainless/ aluminum & the other is blued?

Sam

The 3953 has a stainless steel upper & aluminum alloy lower (1991-1999).

The 3954 has a blued carbon upper & black aluminum alloy lower (1991-1992).

I had 2 LNIB and just sold one here recenty. Although it took me a while to find a 3954, when I did I actually found the 2nd one days latter and bought both.
I don't think it's been more than a month since it sold. Funny thing is when I put it up for sale it took alot longer to sell than I expected.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. :) Happens to me all the time, although not necessarily with the exact same model. But one great find immediately following another is common in my experience (especially when I am down on funds from the first buy :p). But then, of course, you can go weeks or even months finding nothing interesting at all.

Oh, I saw the post and lusted badly after both of them. :D I did score a new-but-no-box Model 3954 from another member, but that and two other purchases have left me dead broke until I sell something. :o

Well wait until you see what old Mbliss57 has to show for 2-fers now! I just bought a LNIB all correct pre 39 from our good Forum and SWCA friend Model3SW. Then within days after I found another equally as nice and also all correct in a FTF deal. Of course I bought both. Well techinically I will buy it this afternon...so never a done deal until it's in my safe. But talk about rare.. A pre 39 in the original box with original paperwork... What are the odds? And yes I will show them off.. Too nice not to display...

Amazing. Some folks have all the best luck! :) And, let's not forget, the free cash necessary to buy that awesome luck! :D Can't wait to see them!

Lack of sufficient funds has hit me hard this year in terms of my collecting activity. It's actually amazing that I'm doing as well as I am under the circumstances, but that has come from selling off assets that won't help once they are gone. Gotta find new income or just accept that a lot of opportunities are going to continue to pass me by. No one ever said this was a cheap, sustainable hobby for a poor old retired fool like me! :p

Yes it does Brad..:D I will show the trio. Hard to believe anthing that is 63 years old can be in that kind of condition. But they are. The 2 will bracket your serial number. One in the 1800s and the other very low 2300s.
As far as finding doubles.. it does help alot if you happen to have the funds available when oportunity knocks. That is the definition luck .."when prepartion meets opportunity".

"When preparation meets opportunity"... I like that! :) Mind if I borrow it from time to time? ;)

No, not the guns... just the phrase! ;)

BTW, I was recently going to start a thread, including a poll, on the subject of doubles, triples, quads, etc. The issue is why are the the semi-auto members, in particular, attracted to buying multiples of the very same gun? I am certainly guilty of it, but I have always attributed it to: a) The purported lack of spare parts for S&W semi-autos, and, b) Massachusetts (where our selection of vintage/all-metal S&W semi-autos seems to be much more limited than in other states). But probably the better answers are: a) Because they're relatively inexpensive (in the context of the broader gun collecting realm) and, b) Because we can. :D

I've got three 3913NLs, two 3914s and strangely a lone 3913 (my first 39xx gun)... three 915s...... four or five 6906s, two 6904s and two Shorty-9s.... a 5906 and a PC 5906.

a) ya but nothing ever breaks

b) not in the free state of Pa.

a) Historically; in Pa. used they have just been too cheap to leave behind...... my last 6904 about two years ago was anib for $260 w/ three magazines about the same time a "sock drawer" 6906 was $320.... the two 3914s were anib and only about $250 each.

b) We can and do whenever possible. I'll be carrying a 3rd Gen Smith on the day I pass......" and when I'm dead, dead and gone .... there'll be two childs born to carry on... to carry on....... "

Nothing like a little thread drift.. but..
Yes you can certainly borrow that phrase TTSH. It’s a very good one and it’s very true. And preparation isn't just saving up the cash. It’s..
1.Having funds available when needed. ( carry cash)
2 knowledge of subject matter and often more knowledge or at least the same as the seller.

Knowledge or good intel is key. I invest in a good smart phone with several reference books loaded on it as well as access to the internet from Non wi fi areas. I spead a few extar bucks to get unlimited data. That alone has paid off in spades many many times. Both in purchases that were priced very well but I wasn't sure and those that were not priced well at all and I didn't know.

As far as multiples.. because I can and often upgrading to a nicer example with plans to sell the less nicer examples. But rarely following through!

Exactly what I'm talking about Bam. :) We just keep buying and buying even when we already own one... or two... or three. What does that say about us? I'm sure some revolver folks do the same thing, but it appears to me to be mostly a semi-auto affliction. ;) And is there a cure for it? Or do we just have to keep buying more safes and try to live with it? :p

I only have two duplicates (no triplicates or quads) in my S&W revolver collection... but the 3rd Gen collection has loads of multiples. Why is that?

Lack of sufficient on-the-spot knowledge has bit me in the behind many times... and Lord knows that he who hesitates (to do some price or model research) is lost. :o No one to blame but myself in those instances. :(

Yep. That's what I tell myself... and the good wife. :D "But Sweetie Pie, this one is nicer than the one(s) I've already got." :p It's all about being convincing... like you really believe it! :D
