Hi!
I just bought a 5" 9mm 5906 Target champion
And cannot find what springs to put in it.
I know that the pistol is the same as the US sold ppc9.
Also is there any other parts that should be changed frequently?

All evidence I’ve found suggests that it takes the same recoil spring as a 5906. I have zero proof of this.

Your pistol is fantastic. It is almost the same as the PPC-9. It differs with sights. The PPC-9 came with the Aristocrat rear sight and a taller front sight to accommodate the taller rear sight. The PPC-9 was also produced in three distinct variants and I don’t believe the WISCHO Target Champion was.

Parts changed frequently? Absolutely not. Shoot it and love it.

Excellent pistol! :D

Specially looking for what recoil spring i need, and if there are any concerns about the model or tuning tips and trick?
Also i like to use Magtech 9f which packs some pretty serious power, is this gun prone the cracks?
Many questions i know, but info in here in Sweden are scarce.

It may take the same recoil spring as the Super9 - S&W part #200710000.

Nothing that Magtech makes in 9mm is even going to approach original spec .356 TS&W, and the PPC-9/Target Champion is basically the same pistol as the 3566 Limited.

There is nothing whatsoever weak or prone to breakage on your pistol.

In looking at your slide, it appears that it is the same length as the 5" model 952; if so, JBethel may be right on the money. While my Factory parts manual is the old 1994 version, in looking through it, it shows the part number above as the Wadcutter Spring for the Model 4506, which would make sense. The regular standard weight spring was the 210610000, and they were (are?) available in a 2-spring package under #193020000.

The guide rod spring tunnel/dust shield goes full length, while some other Performance Center guns have a shorter one.

While I don't have the factory spring weights available for standard and wadcutter springs, Wolff Gunsprings lists the standard weight spring as 14 lbs, and they offer a calibration pack with a range of higher weight, and a range of standard and lower weight springs as well. That's where I would start my search, since yours appears to have the longer guide rod and spring.

Just some musings..

Those are great pistols. I’ve got a 5” Target Champion and two PPC9’s

I use a 17lb 5906 recoil spring from Wolff in my PPC9. drops the brass by my right foot when standing.

Another question in mind, do any of you have some tips on purchase ammo or reloding recipe that has proven succesfull in a target champion 952 or ppc9?

I shot at least 20,000 rounds of Winchester 147 grain Ranger ammo. The last springs probably had around 5,000 rounds with no sign of weak recoil spring. I saw probably 100 plus PPC 9's shooting PPC matches in the western states and the national's and never heard of any issues related to springs or frames.

Smiles,

P.S. I found the Hogue grips to be a little big for my average sized hands. The standard S&W grips are still available if you prefer a slightly narrower grip. PM if I can help you with that!

THERE WAS A COUPLE OF COMPANIES MAKING RECOIL BUFFERS FOR THE S&W 9MM's. "DO NOT" REPEAT "DO NOT" USE THE RECOIL BUFFERS. I'VE SEEN A FEW GUYS WHO DID. THEY RUIN THE SLIDE STOP NOTCH ON THE SLIDE. THERE IS NO WAY TO GET A NEW 5 INCH 9MM SLIDE. JP

Can you explain to me how that works because it doesn’t make any sense to me.

is the grips on the picture standard 5906 grips? or are they even more slim, also asking for the possibility the mount bigger slide release and safety switch?

The 3566 Limited that you show in the picture above came with the standard 9/40 full size 3rd Gen delrin grip, the straight grip was standard (as shown) but the arched grip is available also and mounts properly.

PPC-9 came with a S&W logo’d Hogue fat rubber grip just as shown on your Target Champion, but you can install the regular OEM 3rd Gen grip if you like.

I am not aware of any larger slide release, but the PPC-9/3566 Limited already have the larger (left side only) safety.

THE RECOIL BUFFER WAS A SMALL RUBBER LIKE MATERIAL THAT WENT OVER THE RECOIL GUIDE SPRING ROD. IT WAS TO CUSHION THE IMPACT OF THE SLIDE TO THE FRAME. IT WORKED , BUT IT CUT SHORT THE SLIDE TRAVEL. SO THE SLIDE STOP WOULD ONLY ENGAGE AT THE LOWEST PART OF THE SLIDE STOP NOTCH. WHICH WITH TIME ROUNDED OFF. SO THE GUN THAN FAILED TO ACHIEVE SLIDE LOCK. JP

You turned the numbers around, it should be 201610000.

Wolff's "standard" recoil spring is S&W's 14# wadcutter spring.
It's generally considered that the standard recoil spring is the 18# ball ammo spring. Don't know why Wolff continues to show it that way.
