PC 40 Recon

Steve here... Just picked up a .40 Recon from my local LGS. Came out of a local estate. Not much info floating around on them. Looks unfired in the PC box, both mags and paperwork. Have no idea how many were made. The S&W book says it was made in '98. They called it a 4006 40 Recon.

I love the recon. Mine is a .45 with the comp cut off the end of the barrel, but they are all just plain awesome.

Outstanding. I guess I live in the wrong place to get anything like that locally.

I’ve been kinda looking for one for a while but I’m committed to not spending too much to get one. I’ve got a 9 Recon and a 45 Recon so naturally I probably need a 40. As I’ve stated here before I got the 45 Recon in spite of the extended/ported barrel not because of it. :D

I can't add much to what you already know. Looks like the SKU# was 170099. Only made one year, 1998.

Seems like it's a Shorty 40 with a 3/4" barrel extension?

S&W liked to add 4006 to whatever they could. The original Shorty 40 was called a 4006 Shorty 40. :p

I wonder if those are the original factory grips?

Can you post a picture of the box's label too?

Sorry no box label. Yes they come from S&W with those grips. It was dumb luck I found it at my local gun shop. They never have anything worth buying. They have a 645 but someone engraved it.(

You're one lucky guy , you need to go buy a lottery ticket . I have a Recon45 and like all my PC pistols , it's a gem . I would give my left you know what for a Recon40 , especially one as nice as yours . I need one to go with my Recon9 & Recon45 . I forgot to ask . My Recon9 is NIB , I got it straight from another member that I consider a friend . I know that how I got it is how it came from S&W . Does yours have a knife with it ? My Recon9 has a knife that is serialised to the pistol . My Recon45 I have has no case or anything . So I'm wondering if all the Recons came with knives or just some ?

40 Recon

There was no knife with the pistol. But that doesn't mean it didn't come with one when new. It came in the aluminum PC box, two mags, a trigger lock owners manual , warranty card. A piece of paper that said something about some Mass. disclamer. And the chinese paperwork for the box.
