I installed an ambi safety on my 39-2 from Safari Arms, and old company which was bought out about 20 years ago. If anyone else finds one or is considering getting one, I'm your Guinea Pig!
The fit is good, and it works as expected. It's an easy install. I'm happy with it overall, but the bluing doesn't match the gun's finish. Doesn't really bother me, because a lot of the original finish is gone anyways...
My grips aren't in good shape, so I just took the Dremel the right side to give the switch clearance. I thought about refinishing them, but the gun's got a lot of wear anyways. On the plus side, the trigger is nice and broken in!

EDIT: I meant to ask - anyone know if there was an ambi slide release ever made available, and if there was, where I might find one?
-thanks

Looks like it worked out well for you and the clearance cut in the grip looks just fine. I don't remember ever seeing that part before and I've used a number of Safari Arms parts before, but that was when I was hung up on the 1911 so maybe I just overlooked it. The slotted screw head is a nice touch, unlike the nasty phillip's head S&W would have used or the almost as bad hex that aftermarket parts makers would probably use today. Something else to look for at the shows now. Nice job!
