$1,000 to spend on a 9mm... Which one?

If it was me with that budget, I would look for a Heckler and Koch P7M8.

They are pricey, but a load of fun to shoot. They are extremely accurate, and they are quite slim in profile, though with the steel frame they are a bit heavy. Not too heavy for CC, though.

Well that's my 2 cents, anyways.

Old School - Browning Hi-Power. New School - Sig 226 or 228. Or for $1000.00 you can get two Glocks. SF

Hi Owning and shooting; 3-9mm's from three different manf. my vote would be the HK p30s; quality, reliability, and just the way it feels and shoots! second to none in my opinion.

I'm splurging. I have a budget of around $1,000 to spend on a 9mm as most of my handguns are 9mm and I have the ammo. I am looking for a classic, sharp looking gun, that is accurate, reliable, and COULD be carried if I chose to. I carry all of my handguns, with the .22LR being the only exception.

I'm thinking about a 1911 in 9mm OR Browning Hi-Power. I love 'em both. Which to do!? If I go with a Hi Power I'd likely get a brand new Mark III.

Thanks for helping me spend some money!

Browning Hi-Power

The Smith 1911 is the only 9 that's interested me lately.

Yea, I've considered a 952, but that would be settling. I'd prefer to find a genuine 52 at a price that I can live with.

If it was HP or 1911 only i'd go with the HP. Just as nice and holds more ammo.

But if it were me I'd get a M&P or a Glock, maybe a CZ they are nice too, and the rest $$$ on ammo and mags

For 1000 dollars you could by 2 m&p 40s, the factory 9mm barrel and extra 9mm mags. This would give you 2 guns avalible in 2 common calibers.

I had a P228 a few years back and didnt like it. Sigs dont fit my hand. Functioned fine, just didnt suite me.

You are the first person I have heard of that didn't like the 228!
Lots of folks that don't care for some of the other Sig models but never anyone that didn't like the 228.

re: 9MM

Have you ever looked at a S&W Model 39? It was the first double action semi-automatic S&W made. I carried it as a police officer, on and off duty, and now as a civilian. It's small enough to fit in your front pocket. I've never had a misfire or a stove pipe with it. Very reliable weapon. If you can find a used one, you can save some money as well. Don't knock this one until you try it! LOL Good Luck!

As my "handle" says: swca940... how about the Classic S&W 940 wheel gun? Carry something interesting in a 9mm. Yes it's only 5 rounds. Yes it takes moon clips. But... it's fun to shoot and incredibly well made.

I think if I was looking to spend $1000 on a *single* 9mm, I'd go for the CZ 75D PCR compact, also. I've been trying to find one for awhile now and it is kind of "unobtanium."
A local store has a Browning HP in stock, however, and it is a really beautiful piece of art-in-metal. But if I had to spend - "$1000 on 9mm stuff" - I'd try to get a common-system that would include two pistols. I'd either try to find an (M&P Shield or an M&P 9c) *AND* I'd also get an M&P 9.. OR I'd get a Glock 26 and a Glock 19(or 17)... If I was ambitious and lucky, Id stretch my budget a bit and try to find a Sig P938 and a Rock Island Armory 1911 tactical, in 9mm...

$1000 9mm

Start from the holster you would like to wear and proceed from there. A S&W M&Pc 9mm striker fired with a RAM (reset assist mechanism ) and APEX trigger kit would be an ideal setup and cost much less than $1000. An Hidden Hybrid Holster that allows you to carry on the outside and also inside the waistband is a pragmatic setup. That said, since the ability to get a high cap 9mm mag is more limited, would suggest that you move up to a 40 S&W where the mag is 10 rounds vs the 12 round capacity of the 9mm.

Hi Power and you'll have some cash for ammo if you shop smart.

( HOWEVER, the Smith 952 is the best 9mm I've ever had. If you can find someone who will let you shoot it you'll sell a gun to get another $500 to buy one, no doubt about it ! )

For $1k, I'd find a really nice custom Hi Power. Stippled back and fore straps, Novak sights, and a tuned action. They are out there you just have to look around.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Springfield XD-S.45 and was extremely impressed with its small size, light weight, slender profile, yet relatively reasonable recoil. As mentioned in an earlier post, the XD-S9 has just been released. It should be a very nice weapon for concealed carry....but then again, you'd have money left over.
