Any suggestions on source of 10/32 screws as Weaver scope mounts used to use. Brownell has plugs but no screws. Weaver now uses 10/36 or 40.

These screws would have a slight taper at head to fit steel mount with light countersink.

Which screws are you asking about, ring screws or base screws? I have no idea where you get the idea that they have ever used a #10 screw of any pitch. There have been a few exceptions, but virtually every factory drilled and tapped gun since pre-WWII has used either 6-48 or 8-40 screws. The screws have to fit the holes in the gun!

Do you realize a #10 screw is 3/16" in diameter? Betcha you get some 8-40 Weaver screws from Brownells they will fit! Then all you need to worry about is length. I've been doing this for a bunch of years and have never seen a #10 Weaver screw, literally not in 50 years.

ALK8944 - thanks for response - They are 10/32 as I have tried available ones and they are correct thread. Undestand your doubting, but this is a 1935/6 Win 65 in .218 Bee with a T-5 ring/base (slightly countersunk) side mount combo for 3/4" scope - J-4 type. The plug screw is still available from Brownell. My gunsmith/machinist friend also verified all of this. He said he can make a couple, but +- $50.00
Individual Scope Screws, Etc. has the correct Weaver screw design but, as you note, the 10/32 is no longer offered. I have to believe that some (really) old timer may have a couple. Will use the flat base if I have to, but shooting for an "origonal" setup like I used on groundhogs about 1952-3.

Any ideas would be appreciated. T

Tom,

That would be one of the exceptions. That early virtually no rifles were factory D&T and the mount makers were free to do virtually whatever they wanted! Somewhere between 1936 and 1941 everything got pretty well standardized at 6-48 and 8-40.

I would doubt that factory D&T was standard but Weaver made the mount to fit the 92s, 94s etc. The holes are 2 3/8" CTC. later mounts used a different spacing and more common 3 and 4 holes. Have no idea if Winchester did any mounting for customers. have seen several different mounting systems for the 92s, 94s, etc and all for 3/4" scopes.

Any suggestions of sites where old Winchester buffs hang out?
