Looks like Mbrgr1 has the correct date according to my photographic memory of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson-4th Edition" by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas. I was lucky enough to have had this book suggested to me by a Forum member (maybe 'murphydog'), I can't remember, but it was well worth the price of 2 cases of beer. You should get it if you have the ability to get a hold of a copy. Amazing how much info they packed into 526 pages! And lots of pictures for folks like me.
I'm sorry: Welcome to the Forum from Pittsburgh PA!! Wheel guns are kinda popular on this Forum, but I've found that if you are on the fence about buying anything firearm related, like guns, if you ask for an opinion on a gun or knife you may be interested in you will get some great advice.
For example, I asked about a Glock 23, 3rd Gen with 5 mags, box, papers, and hardly used and stated the asking price, which was closer to $400 than 500, and I swear arms were grabbing me from the computer Forum "suggesting" I acquire said gun. It's one of the nicest shooting pistols I own. That's just an example of the help and experience we have here. At 65 years old I've learned so much I wish I would've got into handguns about 30 years earlier. Heck, 40 years earlier!
