10-7 Snub Question

Back in my pre-Internet days I got a 10-7 with snubbie barrel in some convoluted trade. At the time, that would have barely been old enough to consider used and I thought it would be good for CCW, so I quickly slicked up the action a bit and added a bobbed hammer, then replaced the grips with a set of the smooth combat ("banana type") grips that were commonly used at that time. Now I am wondering whether it was an unusual variation as I don't hear much about Model 10 snubs. BTW, the SN is 550XXX (with a "C" in front I assume, but it is dim enough to be hard to see.) Is this anything out of the ordinary or just another Model 10? Any and all input appreciated.

Assuming it's a 2", it's not unusual at all. If it's a 3", they're not quite as common but short-barreled Model 10s are among the least rare S&Ws out there. We tend to see stainless versions (64s) more often as many of them were originally bulk police/security purchases that end up traded-in and resold in quantity publicly whereas blued 10s were likely purchased more by private individuals who hold onto them, but they're out there, no question about it. Nice guns.

Bought my blued 10-5 2" back in 1968. Still have it in new condition. The price on the box says I paid $ 76.50.

I have a model 10-7

It is a two inch snubby in nickel. I do not think that they are rare. I see them here and there. Nice gun though.

I purchased a 10-5 with 2" barrel and round butt about six weeks ago. About a 90% finish, but very solid lock-up and pretty smooth action. Just added a new set of grips from S&W and a Tyler grip adapter. The shop I purchased it from had if for over four months. Come to think of it, I can lay my hands on two more 2" model 10's at another local gun shop.
