Got a 10-8 this morning and I really believe it has not been fired or carried. Cylinder has a line around it. I've bought quite a few new revolvers in my 78 yrs. and once they have been fired there are tell tail signs. Test firing at the factory usually does not show once it is cleaned and ready for shipment. I cannot find any on this revolver. The line around the cylinder probably came from someone playing with it at various times. I believe it is a later model. First 3 letters of the ser. no. are AUF10XX Case hardening on the hammer & trigger is very crisp. No box, tools or paperwork, but it did come with 100 rds. of Winchester 130 Gr. FMJ ammo. Fellow I got it from took in on a trade deal. Couple pictures attached:

Oh yeah...talking about a low bore axis shooter. Love mine but it's worn.

Is that the final M&P dash model without the lock and MIM parts? It's gotta be pretty close.

It'll serve as well as any other Model 10, but I'd avoid those weak 130 grain FMJ bullets for defense.

Very nice gun. For me, putting Pachmayr finger groove grips tightens my groupings considerably. Rubber might not be as pretty but for accuracy that's what I need.

A fine example of a simple, elegant and practical design. Arguably, Smith and Wesson at its finest. Glad you've decided to put it to its intended use. It will serve you well.
Good shootn',
Doug

I believe the 10-14 was the first version with the ILS/MIM construction.
There is a 10-11 for sale at our local mega GS, Green Top Sporting Goods, that does not have the lock and might be the last standard barreled M10 variant made. Priced at $499.
