So I am looking at what to reload and I found some 10mm brass.

I have a Model 1026 to shoot them with.

I have 180 Rainier plated bullets, Powder on hand BE, Unique, 2400, 231, Red Dot, and a tiny bit of Green Dot remains.

Id like a load no more than 1000 fps and over 850? as a guide. These are far from max loads for the round, no need to beat the gun up and it's only a take it out for fun gun.

Looking back at some old loads for the 40S&W, we used to shoot 5.2 gains unique with these 180s. These were in Glock 22s, shot more than I can remember.

I am thinking around 6 or 6.5 grains Unique?

What are you making?

I've used 6.0 grains Unique with a 180 grain lead bullet. It's basically a max 40 S&W load or 10mm starting load. It's was accurate and easy to shoot out of a Colt Delta Elite.

I'll bet 6.5grs UNIQUE will work out nicely for you. You might find a sweet spot with BE and RedDot if you play around with them a bit.
My G20-SF didn't care for 231 much, but yours might like it fine.
You might be surprised at how well some of these light loads with fast powders shoot in 10mm.

13.5 grains of AA#9. Definitely not FBI lite.

I run about 6 grains of AA#5 for loads you describe.

When I shoot 10MM Auto, I want to shoot 10MM Auto.

My choice of powders for the Magtech 180 JHPs that I have on hand would be Power Pistol. At 8.8 grain, it is not max pressure but it moves that puppy out at 1250 from the 1006

With your powder on hand and a plated bullet, I would be running 6 grains of 231. That would hit 1100 FPS from a 1006

I don't handload my 10m Autos with any powder faster burning than Power Pistol so 2400 is the only one you list that I've used in it.

Instinctively you'd think 2400 wouldn't be good in the 10mm Auto & while you won't get the highest velocity from it, in the 10 Auto, I've found it to group very well in spite of it's slow burn rate.

Using 12.0gr/2400 & Xtreme's 180gr P-HP seated to 1.260" using CCI-300 primer it grouped very well in my 1006 & 1076. Handloader# 253 shows they got 1075 fps from a 5" 1911 with this load & a 180gr Speer GDHP.

Handloader #253 lists 11.0gr/2400 @ 987 fps.

They also list 6.0gr/W231 @ 1037 fps using a 180gr HDY XTP, but I didn't try either.

Surprisingly they don't list what COAL" they were loaded theirs to. I like to load to SAAMI max COAL, 1.260"

Both of my pistols have heavier recoil springs but I had no problems with ejections using 2400. The recoil impulse is somewhat muted using the slower burning powder.

Generally I prefer to save my 2400 powder for my magnum revolvers though. ;)

In my 44 a nd 41s I tried so many different powders to develop the most accurate load and finally found the very best for me was HS-6 with a cci 350 mag primer.

I went straight to my sig 220 10mm when I got it and after a run though some tries it also is the best here as well for a super accurate 2/3 power target load.

I used 180 and 200 gr blue bullets between starting at 7 and working up. If you find unburnt powder you need to go higher just until clean burn. It will come out between 7 and 8 gr and in that 800 - 900 ft/s range I would imagine. The perfect windows is narrow but its worth finding it. Good load on the gun and fun to shoot all day long.

From what you have on hand W231 would be my second favorite somewhere between 5-6gr with a wider window to be accurate.

BE and unique do not meter good enough for me so I don't bother with those.

Try at own risk, use PPE and read a loading book before attempting.

What barrel upgrade/swap would you all recommend for a G20 to run Hard Cast or... ?
Kids bought one recently for casual hiking in the Rockies West of Denver.
It carries concealed better than the 629/4" and is a step up from their G19.
I advised to get the G40, but kids will be kids.

When things settle down we'll get loading gear setup in 10mm and 44Mag.

thx

IF you only want 900fps plinking loads, just about any powder will do from RedDot to AA#7. Anything slower just isn't efficient. Unique will work great with coated lead.

Even bigger question for which 10MM pistol or revolver :) Here is the load for you tried and true tested in 4 different pistols and chronographed including what book I worked the load up from.

180gr Reload Alliant 2400 - 12.2gr - Speer #14 ES 37 SD 15
1077fps

This was out of a S&W 610 4inch barrel with a .006 cylinder gap

Just totally wrong powder imo for 1050fps +. You can do that with any of the medium burners, Unique up to AA#7, cheaper & cleaner.

I've shot a lot of 180 Berrys FP over 6.5grn Unique. In a 5in XDM I'm getting 1100fps. I imagine that if you dial back to 6.0grns, you'd be pretty close to 1000fps, depending on your barrel length.
