Guys

I just picked up a used 1006. Having a problem with the slide stop.
I went I close the slide and the spring pin in the end of the slide stop is going below the angle plate and getting stuck.
I have to press the pin in to clear the bottom of the plate.
It's also not moving up to hold the slide open.

Not sure how to fix it.

The slide plate is out of spec. Replace it. It should be identicle to those on the .45's.

easier said than done. 1006 parts?

Interesting .. tonight I shot 8 mags worth of ammo, the slide stop worked every time. Just doesn't work by hand.

Bent side plate is your problem. The prongs that anchor the sideplate to the sear pin are loose/bent allowing some vertical play in the forward end. That play permits your slide stop plunger to become trapped beneath the sideplate end periodically. The bent sideplate needs to be replaced, there's no fixing it. The part you need is S&W 108600000 Try calling S&W and see if they have any. If that doesn't pan out, Midway has the earlier sideplate revision in stock (S&W 106990000) which will work just fine. In fact, I just got two of those delivered today.

Cheers
Bill

this may have the wrong slide stop.

Perhaps someone modified the underside of the leg on the back of the slide stop that accuates the step on the magazine follower? Removing material there would allow the slide stop to drop down below the angled face of the sideplate.

It's not your slide stop that is the problem, Richardj.
The problem is the part the slide stop pin is going below.
What you refer to as the "angle plate" is called by Smith & Wesson the "Sideplate assy."
That part could move up, down, or rotate in a complete circle around the riveted hammer pin (that's why it's called an "Assy.") were it not for its lower split leg that locates it on the "Sear Pin".
I can see in your picture that the split leg has been widened slightly so that it no longer fits tightly in the groove in the "Sear Pin".
Because of that, the "angle plate" (Side Plate) has rotated upward, away from the slide stop.
It is sometimes possible to remove the Side Plate and carefully straighten the split leg so that it once again fits tightly in the Sear Pin groove, but it may not be a lasting repair.
Replacement is the better choice.
When the magazine is inserted, it supports the slide stop and keeps it from dropping down.
BTW in my experience, I've found the .45/10mm models to be more sensitive to this sideplate misalignment, although it is not right on any model.
Hope this helps!

Oh, and I don't wish to create confusion, but you are correct in saying "this may have the wrong slide stop".
The slide stop you have is for the frame mounted or "Sig Style" decocker models (i.e. the 1026/1076).
However I must repeat: "It's not your slide stop that is the problem".
Other than the position of the thumb pad on the outside of the slide stop, they are identical and interchangeable.

Guys you are correct. I replaced the slide stop and that didn't fix it, but at least now I have the right one, I straightened the legs on the side plate and that fixed it for now. Is that side plate that much cheaper than the old style plug in the frame??

Probably so.
Instead of two parts to manufacture and install, now only one.
And an elegant solution.
The only problem is that it's easier for the uninitiated to damage and bend the lower leg whilst playing around with grips.
Other than the problems caused by ham-fisted owners, it's an improvement.
