My 1006 is my fave pistol, I shoot it the best of my pistols, you can't beat the balance, and it obviously has plenty of power...therefore I carry it a lot. I wonder if that is a bad idea, due to the caliber. The last thing me or any of you ever want is to use our ccw's in self defense but if I had to maybe the 10mm would give lawyers a chance to paint me as a gun nut rambo guy with a cannon. Just wondering what you guys think.

Since the 10MM was used by the FBI and many other LE Agencies I wouldn't worry about it to much. The reasons for why the shooting happened would be more important.

+1. That is one heavy piece of steel to lug around though. ;) Hope you have a good holster.

I carry one of these to most of the time and have for several years.

Pair of 10's.

Don't worry about the lawyers. Heck I use to carry a 629 3" IWB loaded with 240gr JHPs so you are no Rambo with a 10mm.

I carry my 1066 IWB during all but the summer months. Let's just put it this way. If you are involved in a self defense shooting the lawyers will be foaming at the mouth and use anything and everything they can if they go after a civil trial. Use the gun you are comfortable and accurate with.

Hey Folks!
Obvious question I think with the 10mm while carrying is the type and make of holster you use with the 10mm. I do occasionaly carry in an IWB but its pretty uncomfortable. I sit and drive alot so I am seriously looking into an Undertaker holster. Any opinions? Also I am sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this thread. Take care and God Bless!HT

Stop over analyzing. Carry what works for you.

If you are ever involved in a altercation where firearms are used. Having to tell a jury why you chose a firearm that you can shoot well, can control and has the ability to stop an assailant quickly would be a much better outcome than the other possibilities.

Well I carry my 1006 with a simple rig called the Insider by Desantis. Just a simple IWB w-belt clip. No snap rings, no fancy molded leather, just a good thin holster. A good sturdy gun belt is a must, I have a Galco. I carry mine at about 5 o'clock and forget it is there, and I'm not a giant either, 5'8" 150#. To me it's much easier to carry than a double stack like a 5906. The slim profile makes it cumfy, even if the gun is huge. Hope this helps.

Bianchi 6 Waistband Holster - Rust Suede, Right Hand 10384. 10384. Bianchi Holsters.
I use a Bianchi IWB holster at 11:00. It works well enough for me to keep my pistol concealed and comfortable. It also fits several of my other handguns when I feel like carrying them instead.

just switched to 10mm

I just recently switched from carrying .45 auto to 10mm. I would carry a Sig 220 or S&W 4566. So the transition to the 1066 was seamless. I like having the extra round in the mag. I also feel like I can shoot the 10mm a little more accurately. I use a Passport brand Kangaroo IWB holster with an extra mag pouch.

I occasionally carry my Glock 29SF. It is a wonderful gun, lots of power but easy to control.
I do think about Harold Fish but really the fact that he was carrying a 10mm was the least of his problems.

Why were you carrying such a powerful weapon?

Because the FBI adopted it and they seem to know what they are doing, and I heard that it is a very accurate weapon.

Simple and to the point. I seriously doubt anyone will be able to add to your liability just on the basis of a caliber. Now if you have handloaded exploding bullets....................

Caliber size would be the least of my worries.
Shoot what you want, just shoot it well.

Have a 1006 and a 1066.
Tried to carry the 1066 in a Milt Sparks
Coversix, couldn't get used to the weight.

Went with a G29 with a grip reduction by Bowie
Tactical. Now my edc. Use a iwb Down Under
by High Noon.

Works well for me.

Thanks for all the sugestions!! How do you carry when you are driving? Thats where I am having the most trouble. Take care and God Bless...HT

I'm going to chime in,but i don't have a 1006/66 though i wish i did.I do however carry a 686 4 inch most of the time.

When i carry anything it has to be owb and even worse i'm a lefty to boot,so when i'm driving i spent the extra money (45)dollars for a bianchi accumold paddle holster that i cross draw from.I still leave my leather holster on my strong side tilted forward. It may sound strange but it has one advantage to it.If someone see's me reaching for something,i'll tell them i'm trying to undo my seatbelt.

Also i can take it and my gun off while going into places where c/c is forbiddon. When i return i slide it back in place and go.When i'm out and away from the car i just put my gun in my leather holster and go about my business.

You may not want to go through as much trouble as i do,but i think it's worth it,and if i ever just go to the store and don't want to put on a belt slide holster, just slip it on and go.

One thing about lawyers, they will always figure out a way to come at you for something. I think the important thing in the end is that you are still around to be bothered by the lawyers.

Carry what you feel comfortable with, and what will give you the chance to live long enough to have to worry about the jury trial.
