On the Thursday night of October 5th 2011, sometime in the night I had a stroke.
When I arrived at the ER my BP was 220 over 187. The took an MRI gave me drugs. One drug lowered my BP so much I have no recollection of the next 4 days! My wife tells me, the nurses doing the rounds would skip my room, and come back later. There was a man about my age across the hall on total (100%) life support. She ask one nurse why they skipped my room? The response kind of shocked her... They like to finish a shift on a high note. Of everyone there I was the best candidate to get better!
On the 5th day I was transferred to In-patient therapy. I had left side paralysis. A little speech slur, and no strength anywhere!
They worked me over pretty good! On October 23rd they discharged me, and wheeled me down to the side door. I made them stop. They wheeled me in thee place on a cart, I used all the strength I had and walked out under my own power!
At the time, I had 5 grandkids. One of my motivations was that they do not grow up without any grandpas, like my brother and I had to.
I now have a total of 9 grandkids, and life is a blast!
If you wake up and find yourself in such a situation, do what the Docs say +25%, but more importantly do what the therapists say + 50%!
Enjoy my 13th year of borrowed time and hug you kids and grandkids!
