I'm a huge fan of the blued 59 series pistols.

I had this one on my wish list thinking I would probably never find one. Coming across this one gives me hope that I may come across a 459A or one of the other rare ones someday.

I was surprised to see how many 2nd generation attributes it has. But, the firing pin safety is not one that this has.

That is a nice find that's in great shape. I bet there can't be too many of those floating around out there.

Your Gun Is Very Rare

See page 288 in the SCSW. Your pistol was originally a model 47 and afterward stamped with a "1" and an "A" to become the model 147A. Your photos show the overstamping; according to the SCSW, only 112 were made in 1979. Again, only 112! How lucky you are! I am green around the gills with envy! :D

Very cool.....!

Now that you have that M47 (147A that is), you need to find a Model 44 to round out the collection... :)
I know you are a M59 guy, but finding a M44 (single action version of the M39) would be a coup......

Very nice.

You Could Have the Very First One!

I found another 147A that was for sale (that I missed :() It had a factory letter, which if you can read the squinty eyed print in the attachment, indicates the first 147A was SN A49000. Your serial number looks like A4900; I don't know if the last digit just didn't show up in the photo, or you obscured it, but your SN could be the first of the 112.

Not only did you find the needle in the haystack - but it's in great shape to boot!

Congratulations,

Jerry

What a remarkable find!

It appears to have the fully adjustable (elevation and windage) rear sight that was available for the 59 from S&W, post production.

Wow....nice find. I had a shot at one and passed several years back thinking the seller wanted too much $$$$. I think I screwed up! Thanks for the posting the pics.

Smith & Wesson 147A

I also have a S&W 147A unfired in the box with a Roy Jinks letter.
If it is a true 147A the serial number will be between 490000 -490112.
Mine is the first one that I've ever seen that I could lay hands on.

Welcome to the forum!

Now that's a first post.

I'd love to have a NIB one, congratulations.
