I just got the above bullets in from Berry's and wonder about the proper seating depth. I have seen wadcutters seated all the way in to the top of the case and I have seen them seated with 1/4 inch sticking out. I am shooting a revolver so the overall length isn't an issue, I just want to know if there is a correct depth. Does this effect accuracy? What about crimping? How much crimp do these require.

Thanks

The flush-loaded wadcutters are for functioning and firing in M52 pistols.

If your WC have a crimping groove or cannelure you should crimp into the groove. A light roll crimp or a firm taper crimp is sufficient.

If your WX have no crimping groove, I would seat them flush and crimp over the end of the bullet.

This is the bullet I am using. There is no groove.

Seat them flush with the case mouth, apply a light roll crimp over the end of the bullet to aid in chambering. As they're solid base the load data for such solid base cast bullets can be used.

Confusingly if you call Berry with this question they'll advise you to leave them 1/8 to 3/16" out of the casing with a taper crimp. I had no luck with that. I found the best I could do was seating them flush with a very slight taper crimp. I eventually found Rainiers more accurate and POI was more to my liking.

Thanks for all the advice. I just loaded 20 of them and seated them flush with just enough crimp to take the flare off the bullet and allow it to seat in the cylinder. I used 3.5 grains of titegroup. I will shoot them this weekend and see how they do.

Thanks again

Mike out the Berry bullets and weigh them. I ordered 1000 to test them and they miked anywhere from .355 to .358. Weight was off by as much as 4 grains.

Hell, my casts are better than that by a far cry.

Never could get Berry to shoot.

You scared me so I just went and measured a dozen of them. All were within a half grain of 148 and miked right at .357 I hope they shoot as good as they seem.

I shot a lot of Berry's plated 148 HBWC's, I found if you seat the bullet .015" proud of the case, a roll crimp will follow the radius of the cut ring instead of just folding over the top of the bullet. Berry's tumbles their plated bullets and rounds off the edges.
