About 7 or 8 years ago, I took my Godson shooting for the first time. Me and his Dad are like brothers and we've been friends since we were 12 (we're 51 now). His Dad isn't into guns, and his Mother is somewhat anti gun. She had a few gun related tragedy's in her life that have helped form her opinion. It was a miracle she let me take him shooting when he was 14 years old!
Long story short, out of all of the guns that I let him shoot (pistols - metal and plastic, and revolvers), my Godson fell in love with my 4" Model 19-4. I was very surprised, and very happy at the same time. I've found that most younger shooters gravitate to pistols, especially the newest and best advertised "tacticool" ones.
My Godson will be graduating from college next year, and I wanted to get him a special gift for the occasion. I thought about giving him my 19-4, but it's too clean and I'm afraid he wouldn't shoot it (plus I'm somewhat attached to it
)
I've been looking for the right gun, one that's in nice shooter condition. With the help of another forum member, I found this 19-2 that I think fits the bill nicely. According to Roy, it shipped in May of 1968. I'm very much looking forward to giving this gun to him, so much so that I probably won't be able to sit on it for a year. I've decided that I'll probably give it to him when he's home for spring break in March. Of course I'll tell him that if he doesn't graduate, I'm going to take it back! I know that won't be an issue. He's taking Electrical Engineering and currently has a 3.4 GPA, all while playing ice hockey and not missing many frat parties
