1903 Colt

I just picked up a really nice 1903 Pocket Hammerless today.

Took it to the range and ran a box of 32acp through it.

No hiccups, just a smooth trigger, no recoil, and amazing accuracy (considering how hard it is to see the sights!)

I know it's blasphemy on this board, but the fit and finish on those old Colts (mine was made in 1925) is outstanding.

Yeah

Yeah... I think we all know that the 1908 is just a re-caliber of the same pistol. Actually, we have JM Browning to thank for all of this. He was the one that came up with the .380 ACP as a new caliber for his standard pistol (also, the .32)... and it turned out to be one of the most venerable old calibers out there. I love my old .32's, and especially because of the history in films... after all, James Cromwell shot Kevin Spacey in the movie with one... Of course, nowadays, the .380 is available right off the shelf, whereas, you have to look for the .32. Ah well... Bogart would smile. (he used the 1903 in 5 movies). LBD

Those are fine weapons. I own three in the .32, one early, one mid and one late production as well as a .380. By the way, the newly manufactured .32 magazines for the newly manufactured .32 pistols work beautifully in the old guns, and cost about the same as the stamped-out-of-beercans junk out there in the marketplace. I wish they would make a run for the .380 as well.

If it is a 32 caliber it's a 1903...the 1908 was a 380. Neat guns, I have one of each. They are terribly hard to completely disassemble and put back together. I will say one thing about John Moses Browning, based on the sights that were on the pistols he designed...the cat had some good eyesight!!!!

Don't forget the M1908 in .25acp as well!

Look in Ian Fleming's James Bond novel, "Thunderball". The main villain used one of those to kill a rebellious colleague.

You probably know that FN made it as the M-1906.

And where would one purchase some of these new "Colt" magazines?

I've never seen any.

Well he didn't exactly say "Colt" was making them; but I feel certain he meant "U. S.Armament", who is manufacturing the Colt licensed Model 1903 Hammerless pocket pistol .32 auto, and providing the magazines, (for about $40.00 each). The gun being in the $1500.00 range for now.

While the first batch or two of mags, (about a year ago), had questionable function, with some tightening up of specs, the report of the latest ones are now excellent.
