I have been shooting in an informal local competition for about a year and a half now shooting first an M&P 9mm and lately a model 92fs Beretta (both about equally accurate in my hands). I shoot pretty well with either and have always placed pretty well but lately have gotten the incentive to want to shoot even better. While both the M&P and the Beretta are actually very accurate for combat pistols I would like to step it up and get something that is capable of better than combat accuracy. I have a ton of 9mm stuff for reloading and have worked up some accurate loads so I would like to stay with 9mm if possible. Has anyone here taken the necessary time to see just what the 1911 Pro is capable of? Without getting into the "Only as good as the shooter" thing, what are they ultimately and repeatably capable of at 50ft.

Okay then, has anyone at least heard any stories or rumors regarding their accuracy. Twelve hundred dollars is a lot for me to shell out just to "see what it'll do". I have heard comments going both ways regarding 1911 style pistols in general.

For what the Smith costs, you can get a STI Trojan. They aren't stainless, but they are pretty much competition ready out of the box. A Trojan will give you the degree of accuracy you're looking for. If you have any accuracy problems, STI will fix it. They won't just tell you a 6" 25 yard group meets specs like S&W will.

One significant advantage to the 1911 design is the excellent trigger pull which contributes greatly to accuracy. Not meaning to disparage the polymer frame pistols but none of them are capable of delivering the great trigger pulls that a 1911 can. Shooters can get used to any trigger pull but a good trigger pull will make a noticeable difference in accuracy.

I have owned mine for about 8 months, and have a few hundred rounds through it and have to say I really like it. I am not an expert shooter by any means, but I shoot pretty accurately with it up to 25 yards. Haven't tried and longer distance yet. Gun works like a charm with no issues at all. A little pricey, but I think it's worth the money. I really like 1911's

S&W Pro Series 1911-9MM My review

I've traded and sold all but one of my double action semi-auto pistols to concentrate on 1911 platform guns.

After looking for a clean used 9MM 1911 for a couple of years an ANIB S&W Pro 1911 landed in my LGS. I traded for it and am very, very glad did.

Three trips to the range so far and about 1,000 rounds shot. The Pro 1911 sights are dead on with both 115gr and 124-25gr ammo. Best groups have been with my hard cast Missouri cone 125gr loads which put a 10 round magazine into two inches or so at 50 feet while shooting from a seated position with just my forearms rested on the bench. Factory 124gr is just as accurate with 115 gr rounds vertically stinging a bit. Rapid fire all hits are in the 10 ring of a 50 foot reduced combat target. Reliability has been nearly perfect, save for two double-feed jams with a new Wilson magazine. Ejected brass is tossed over the shooter's right shoulder and lands within a couple feet making brass retrieval
easy (I wish my Springfield RO .45 was as gentle-it flings brass 30 feet to the right!!)

Fit and finish are superb with the front strap and main spring housing checkering being sharp and very neatly done. All edges are rounded as are the Novak three dot sights. The slide to frame fit is tight and rattle free. Trigger started out at a bit over 5lbs and has now dropped to just under 5lbs on my Lyman gauge. No creep either. The flared magazine well extension makes swapping mags fast and sure.
