Made a range visit yesterday with my new-to-me S&W 1911PD, and had some slide issues. A couple of times, the slide wouldn't fully return to battery - it would stop with the round not fully chambered. I eliminated one of the four mags I was using, an 8-round Mec-Gar that had a flat plastic follower, and that seemed to cure the problem.
However, with the other three mags, there were several times the slide wouldn't lock back after the last round. The three consisted of two new CMC PowerMag+ 8-rounders, and an older 8-round S&W which I think was made by Mec-Gar. All three had steel followers.
I cleaned the gun afterwards, and I tried racking the slide with each of the four empty mags. The Mec-Gar locked back, and with a little difficulty I was able to release the slide. The other three also locked back, but I couldn't release the slide at all without removing the magazine. At the range, with the mags loaded, I had no problem releasing the slide.
Any thoughts on what might be going on with the gun?
