Safeties on 1911s only come into play if its a Swartz (spelling ?) firing pin safety. This is where the grip safety disengages the firing pin safety.

Any safety should work, and WILL require fitting..

What safety are you talking about ?

I just swapped out my extended, double sided safety that came on my S&W 1911, for a standard safety. I installed a used safety lever from an old series 70 government Colt, and it went right in, and worked perfectly. Maybe I was lucky, but that was my experience.

With your safety on pull the trigger, then hold the gun to your ear and pull the hammer back a little. If you hear a click you need to have a new safety fitted.
