1926 Chopped Target .44spl

I want to play too! This is my 1946 3rd Model Military Transitional, S66805, with chopped barrel and matching stocks. $1,300.00 three years ago, not lettered. I just had to have it. I'd certainly want to add the OP's Target to my accumulation and would be a player IF the timing, funds, and stars were aligned. ~$2K range maybe?

I'm in a place similar to Dave Keith on this, although I have no use for this revolver at this time. It was modified to be a working tool for someone who knew or had a darned good idea of what he needed/wanted for his purposes. As such, it is priceless to someone who has a similar need.

I am not even close to a collector - a handgun is a defensive working tool, not art that belongs in a safe or display. If the end result is art-like, it is not because it is unmodified, but because it was modified with thought and consideration. My guess is that these mods were thought out by a man who went to bad places and dealt with bad people, and needed a tool that was right for that. The vast majority of my firearms have to be able to function well in that setting, and everything else is an inanity.

I'm not a collector . I shoot all my guns and hunt with most of them . At this particular point in my life I can't afford a 26' but if I could and was offered that one or an all original 6 1/2" in mint condition for the same money I would leave with your gun . The short barrel is just the perfect length to suit my use , not too long and not too short . King sights are to me always a big plus on anything and add not subtract value as far as I am concerned . The Ivory we don't even need to talk about cause of course I prefer Ivory above all other grip materials and especially magnas . That gun is perfect just as it is . To me it has lost no value .

Eddie

PS : Did I mention that I like your gun ? :D:):D:):D

Some of the valuations in this thread are very comical!! Thanks for the laugh gents.

Take a look at what they've done in the major auction houses and in other previous sales, the norm is over five figures. They only made 96.

George,
Where did the 96 figure come from? Last I heard, we were still guessing at "maybe 50 Pre-War and maybe 50 Post-War."
Have they positively been counted?

I laughed at the value estimates also. I've sold at least two Pre-War guns over the years. I wanted to hold them, but I couldn't because I was in that deep hole owning this forum caused me.
Both brought well over 10. ;)

I do now own one, but I'll talk about that at a later date.

Steve,
Neat gun my friend! Where'd you dig that up?
Care to share what it cost?

Putting a number on it is tough.
Diminished originality, but added King coolness. Traditionally, I've gotten more for King guns than unaltered comparable guns.

If it came to me to sell, I might say 12 minus 6 plus 1500-2000. :D

"HSP" on butt? Whatcha mean?
Can you post more pics? You're always sparse with them. Do you have to pay by the pic or somethin? :D :p:p

I don't think it's fair to show us only one photo of the gun. Especially those of us who'll never have the slightest opportunity to have something like that.

Could we see some more photos?

Please?

Is this just a southern thing. The posters on this thread seem to be folks from Geoga, nerth Karolina, Lowest Alabamy, Kaintuck, Taxes or some mix of the above. We don't have many 44 threads, or nearly enough of them.

Dave, are you coming to Lvlle in two weeks? Just asking. Even Charlie Sherrill wants to come if I can guarantee him it won't snow a foot or two. We're thrown in with David Carroll I think so if yer lookin' fer us, try there first. Just turnin' the debris over in the gun room, I've discovered a couple of gold 44 boxes. I might should bring them along to taunt the weak. One's a 4" and the others a 5". I even discovered 2 long lost 44s hiding out in them. Thats the up side of these threads. They're interesting enough the forgetful like me take an old shovel to the dungeon and turn up some stuff that hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

George, I can't believe those numbers. I've got 3 of them, and its not like me to somehow accumulate that many. Are you believing Jim Fishers guesses as to how many? Now it seems like Lee is joining in on that. I'd sure like to know where Y'all are gettin' your numbers from.

Yew fergot Ole Virginie! :D

Well, I'm back after a little venture to "Karolina" where I got to see some forum members. As requested, here are a few more pics. I was told I had to buy the ape a drink at S&WCA for every pic I posted, so I was holdin' back.
I'm gonna charge you guys for the drinks! :D

Wow...all the fine shoot'n irons on here....... makes me sick with jealousy. (wearing out the like feature) This'n is just about perfect for me.... Dave has one like it that is just as fine.

No telling what it would sell for in an auction. The King parts kinda makes up for the cut barrel. I wouldn't be surprised if it would go for somewhere in the $2500 range.

Not really a fair comparison, but a non-factory poorly refinished nickeled four inch 3rd model .44 just sold on GB the other day for over $1400 with shipping.

Mark
Makes me feel better since I overpaid for this W&K about 5 years ago
