1932 38/44 rebound spring number of coils

anyway after cleaning and putting back together, I realized that the spring went back together somewhat easy, and the trigger return is slow.....took spring out and it is 10 coils long....I see that they are supposed to be 15-17 coils?...
wondering as this is older, if there needs to be a difference in length then the 15-17

Was probably cut to reduce DA pull...

Replace with a Wolf 13 or 14#.... Almost all my Smiths have 13s...12s will only work well with very polished and tuned actions...

My early Outdoorsman has weak trigger return. I wonder if it has the same problem?

For reliability I never dropped below a 14 lb spring, and a factory mainspring. I'd rather have a slightly heavier trigger than the possibility of problems in the field.

Check your rebound spring. One end is cut, and the other
end should be finished. If both are cut, you need to replace
it. You can find them on Ebay.

An un-modified spring will have a closed coil at both ends. If it doesn't then the spring has been shortened, regardless of number of coils. Coil springs sometimes do weaken with use due to fatigue. If you are concerned then replace it with a new factory spring.

I think the poor parts technician at S&W is going to vapor-lock if you ask them for a Heavy Duty rebound spring.

That has been cut. BTW shortening a coil spring increases the force needed to compress it.
