1955 Question

Pardon my neophyte S&W question but are all the 1955 45 Caliber N frames 45 acp or were any of them 45 Colt. If not when did the 45 Colt versions first come out and were this initially labeled as model 25s?

Thank you for your patience. Many years dealing with Rugers but just starting to dip my toes into the S&W world.

There were some 45 Colts, I believe, but I don't have any dates. Somebody will be along.

According to The Catalog of S&W, it is reported that 15 of the 1955 .45 Target models (Pre 25) were made in .45 Colt. Once the Model 25 came out, around 1957, the book says that few were produced in .45 Colt until 1977, when the Model 25-3 was introduced in .45 Colt, followed by the 25-5 which offered more versions of the .45 Colt than had previously been released.
