1958 Model 18 no dash

So I went to the range, and it shot flawlessly. Pu probably 100 roumds through it. Great trigger and easy to pick up the sights.

Blue Target = DA
Purple 6 rounds =DA
Green 6 rounds = SA

I read on line that there were less of the 18s made compared to the 17s is that really true or just something that is said in line?

I have no doubt that S&W made fewer .22 Combat Masterpiece units than they did K-22 Masterpiece revolvers. That would be true both in the pre-model-number period and since 1958.

The simple reason is demand. The K-22 Masterpiece (including the Model 17) was an extremely popular .22 target revolver for many years. The 4" Combat Masterpiece was not as treasured for target shooting, hence the demand was much lower.

In addition, the K-22 Masterpiece had a head start. The first year of full production was 1947 and roughly 10,000 units were shipped that year. The Combat Masterpiece didn't appear until about 1950. Not counting the so-called "Classic" in 2009, the Model 18 was discontinued in 1985.

Picked it up. The lockup is super tight. And while it does have some holster wear the bluing is still nice.

Thoughts?

Trying out some target grips next.

Looks like a beauty to me (but then again, I am a sucker for any 4" K-22). The rounded on the bottom PC magnas (on the gun in the first photos) are much newer than the gun - it would have shipped with diamond magnas (my personal grip/stock choice). However, those modern finger-groove target grips are very nice and look like they would feel great when shooting hundreds of rounds through that lead-flinging machine.

Congrats!!!
