I have had this(1961)NIB S&W Model 15-1(4-screw)Combat Masterpiece(.38) for awhile. However, since this revolver is my "pride and joy"-thus, I wanted to share some photos of this specimen with you, as follows::)

Good photos of a great gun. I have always considered the 15 along with the M&P as classic law enforcement guns. I am old enough to remember seeing both riding on many police officers' belts. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thats a very nice K38 CM.
While I hate to use the word "Rare" the dash 1 guns are harder to find as they probably had the shortest run of any revision.

The diamond target grips are really nice but I would guess most Model 15/18's came with Magna grips .

Do you know if they came on the gun originally or were added later?

Thanks for sharing it.

The diamond target grips are really nice but somehow look a little large for the Model 18/15 to me when compared to K/L magnums like the Model 19 or 586.

I would guess most Model 15/18's came with Magna grips but they on the other hand look small....ha ha.

Did

The original owner whom I purchased this M15-1 from said that the gun had shipped with the target grips-as he had ordered it this way. Thanks for posting your beautiful M15-1 with the magnas on it-they look nice too!

Its hard to tell from the pics but does your box have 4 or 5 rings on the corner metal tabs?

Im guessing 5 for target grips vs 4 for Magna grip guns but there is no set rule.

The box has 4 rings on the corner metal tabs. Although, the lid seats all the way down with the target stocks.

I carried a Model 15 for many years. It has always been my first love of Smith and Wessons.

I have 2, and soon a third 15 will join these.

1964 Model 15-2, fired only 6 rounds in it's entire life.Passed on to me by my old commanding officer in the Air Force.

And I couldn't pass up this 1974 15-3 in nickle last year for $430 at a LGS.

Even though the targets are 80's vintage, they are brand new. This gun was very lightly shot.

I never counted the rings but I see that I have 3, 4 and 5 ring boxes. 5 rings on a mod 14 with TGs but also on a 19-1 2" snubby box with RBGs. Couldn't come up with any rhyme nor reason except all the N frame boxes seem to have 5 rings like the pre model 24 boxes; one gun with magnas and one w/TGs.

Learned something new today. Thanks.

Your M15 is beautiful but there is just one thing wrong with it......... it needs to be "dirtied up" a little bit. I hope you are shooting it.

I own two M15 4" revolvers and they are absolutely the BEST and MOST ACCURATE .38 special revolvers I own (and I have a lot of them)! They shoot circles around all my 6" barreled guns; why I do not know but that's just they way they are.

Enjoy!

Well, I don't think that I'll dirty up this 15-1..............however, I recently got a LNIB model 67 no dash Combat Masterpiece that I'll shoot instead? Thanks for your complement on the gun as well as the additional information you've provided above!:)

Bigun,
You got me thinking about CM's and I stopped by a local pawn shop today.
Usually has a few interesting things but today it was an early low 3K serial unfired original SS rear site Model 67 for $400....
That and a half penny FS Baby Chief..

Beautiful combat masterpiece. As a lad I remember seeing either a combat masterpiece or M&P in officers holsters. Both are the classic cop revolvers.

Howard
