My only ( had several 58's before) and my favorite .41 magnum is a minty 4 inch no dash model 41 with Hogue grips. Shoots great , feels great.
I can load it with Silvertips and use it as a night stand gun or carry gun. Or load it with 210's for the woods.

I currently have two 4" 57s. One is a first year, and I got it from the nephew of a gentleman who kept it on his sailboat while plying the Alaska coast. The boat went down one night and he jumped off, swimming to shore with only his T-shirt, blue jeans, and his .41 mag. He was rescued by the Coast Guard 3 days later. I would feel comforted if that was the only gun I had in brown bear country, though a .416 Rigby would be a lot better....
The gun shows the wear you would expect, including a little pitting on the frame. Original grips are long gone.

I only own one .41 Mag now, but I really like this one.
Took the 50 year old out to the range today.
A couple more photos of the 58 my dad bought back in '64.

My first .41 Magnum, bought in 1983.
Took the old Bushnell Phantom scope off (photo in post 28) some time ago and I think this is the first time I've shot it since the rear sight was put back on. The old girl sure likes the Lyman 220 grain SWC with a stout load of 2400. Shot from 25 yards sitting......There always has to be one that wanders off on its own.
I do love the long tube .41s.

Well, I just have to post my four-inch Model 57. The only .41 in the safe at the moment. I started loading the .41 Magnum thirty five plus years ago and I still do. I fell in love with the .41 Magnum as a young man and we've grown old together. But I digress, here's mine.

I am currently "on the road" for an extended vacation in Idaho. Stopped along the way to visit with an unnamed forum member who had some fun sampling some .41s he had never got to shoot...this is the 5" 57 but he really fell in love with a 6" Freedom Arms 654 .41 Magnum....

Thanks again, Bob, for letting me shoot some of your fine handguns that afternoon. I had a lot of fun. Oh and don't go leaving that Freedom Arms 654 .41 Magnum laying around unattended when you're here. I don't know if I could stand that much temptation!

That's a beauty. Today, the stocks are worth what you paid for the whole thing, so you can think you loaned them the money for 13-years or so and got the revolver for free.
I would be surprised if that gun was made in '68 though I suppose it might have shipped in '68. I'm no expert on that kind of thing, but I'd think the gun with the coke bottle stocks (unless they are not OEM to this particular gun) might be a little earlier. Really great looking .41 you have there. Very nice.

It is possible they're replacements as it hasn't been lettered. It does have TT, TH, WO and RR if that makes it more likely it came with them. I believe the serial # is in the S317XXX range - I haven't looked at it in a while but it's somewhere thereabouts. If they were replacements I'm glad the owner had such good tastes!

I have two .41 Magnums, a 6" nickel N frame bought in 1979 second-hand. It is pinned and recessed so I think in was fairly new. I bought a New Model Ruger Blackhawk 6 1/2", sold it when money was short and finally got a second one of the pre-transfer bar variety. I wanted a second blued 6" M57, bought one "too cheap", it was pitted and worth less than what I paid for it, long after the satisfaction of the price the appearance gave me pain. It went away. A 10mm auto 6 inch, M610?, may just be needed to round out my 40 caliber revolver collection. The nickel 6" M57 got my first handgun whitetail and still has a place of honor in my hunting memories / N frame collection. If I had owned this one first maybe there wouldn't be so many 357 Mag, 45 ACP/45AR, 44 Spl, 44 Mag, 45 Colts rubbing elbow around the place. Nah, never enough good guns.

That seems like a pretty late number for the coke bottle stocks, but someone like Bill (Doc44) could give you much better information than I can. It's entirely possible the stocks are original to the gun but my experience says not. In any case, if you like the feel of them as much as I do, you are lucky to have them!
Actually, much like the 10mm, it was an attempt at filling a need for LE, but then you probably know that. Not successful due the "Magnum Fever" and a lack of understanding of the application for the round by ammunition manufacturers. And, as a hunting handgun, it is much more controllable with about the same effective power as a .44. It went into production before hotrodding the .45 Colt became real popular.
Put a 210 grain hardcast Keith bullet flying 1000-1100 fps in it and you can take any animal on the continent with it. Pretty much any car as well. Put in a softish hollow point running 850-900 fps and you have a great SD round. What's not to like?

A question for you guys that are more up on the Model 57's. I have a 4 inch 57 no dash with an N prefix serial number but it's not P&R. What's up with that? I can post a picture later.
Pictures would be good. Non p&r oughta be a -1 I'd think....
Here is my no dash 57 in nickel I just finally picked up on layaway today. I have the presentation case that needs re flocked. The gun sat in the box for years and has a couple spots from the flock. What is the best way to clean it up? Thanks guys I'm ready to shoot her.

It does have recessed chambers. It's just not pinned. It must be a transitional gun.

We've got'em, and we ARE enjoying them, but I guess all the photo laden post previous to yours, escaped your grasp.
