1965 3" Model 19-2

I have to say that is some of the prettiest wood I've ever seen in a set of factory magnas.
I was thinking the same thing! Holy mackerel, for factory magnas, the grain is spectacular.

If the factory could duplicate that gun, sales would have been unimaginable. Thanks for sharing.

What strikes me most about these photos of everyone's 19-2 is the depth and beauty of the blueing. Modern blued guns just don't look the same. I'm sure back in the day they used some process that the EPA would have stroke over, but the results of that older process is unmatchable.

I'll contribute to this post with a gorgeous, 1972 Model 19-2 that was Class A factory engraved. I had a Jinks letter on this gun, but I LOST IT (makes me ill.)

Some photos from the day I bought it:

It has some weird stocks on it, so I had Kurac make some round butt magnas, which the Jinks letter said it shipped with. Much better.

Just gorgeous all of them...

After the late 1960s the bluing changed... At one time I had a mid-60s vintage Model 18 and a mid-70s vintage Model 48. To look at the two of them from a few feet away they looked the same...nice bright blue. But when looked at up close there was a BIG difference in the reflection and shine. Same with the 1964 57s I have compared to the 70s vintage guns..

It is too bad that both the 19 and 66 were not made in 3" as a regular production item...that extra 1/2" over the 2.5" guns has better balance, shootability and a full length ejector rod...

The process to blue S&W firearms did not change until 1980. What did change was the polishing of the metal before the process was applied. The degree or amount of polishing applied became less over time so bright blue finished revolvers were not as highly polished as earlier ones. The later ones have a different appearance when viewed critically. This is particularly true for 41 and 44 Magnums.

I own "bright blue" revolvers from 1937, 1955, 1956, 1957, up through 2006. The best polish of the metal by far was applied to revolvers in late 1955 through late 1956 (the first year for the 44 Magnum and .357 Combat Magnum).

Hey guys new to your community but not new to online forums.

I thought I'd open up here with a recent acquisition via a pretty good Gunbroker knife fight. I have a pretty serious fetish for 3" K frame and I swore if I ever saw another 3" 19 it would be mine. Very happy with this one as it doesn't even have a turn line.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. Excellent find sir !

I got into a knife fight on Gun Broker myself last year and picked up a Mdl 24-3 LH with letter and news paper adds LNIB..I probably bought early as well...lol.

Enjoy

Well I finally got this one lettered and the copy of the invoice actually answers the question about the box that came with this revolver.

My serial number is K622494 but my box has a serial number of K622477. It looks like the boxes got switched between the three 3T 19-2s in this shipment to the Yorktown Custom Arms Company in 1966. Pretty cool to solve that mystery!

Posting again to see if the photos orient correctly.

:::edited to add::: I have no idea why these are getting flipped sideways. I took the photos vertically.

You probably did it, but if not edit it and save it and than try it. I flipped and saved it and that didn't work than edited the brightness and that worked. Can't explain it.
