Stuck between which of the two sizes to get, and if people prefer the metal over the polymer options for both of these guns?

You say you're stuck between which of the two sizes to get? I've found a lot of people don't know the full-size carry comp also comes in a polymer frame version, with some attractive additions like extra mags and tall sights.

I just responded to a thread describing my full-size polymer CC you might want to take a look at - https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/carry-comp-2-0-poly-owners-here.747506/

I've got the compact Carry comp. I like the slightly smaller grip but the full size is nice as well.

I have a full size 4.25 and 2.0 5" ported in 40sw and a 2.0 compact 9mm no porting wanted on it . If your find the dot optic you buy does not allow the use of stock sights at least for CC needs then you will have to replace them with taller sights . Grip circumference is the same for both the compact and full size depending on the 9incert you use . Height is different but with the right holster height does not matter . I carry at 3:00 in a MTAC thats adjustable for height and angle of carry .

No metal frame m&p wanted as that just added cost and a couple ounce of weight . .

I am looking at it for a concealed carry gun which the compact would work better for, but that being said since the full size is only a bit bigger regarding height I dont know which to pick from. I have issues with the grip on my glock 19 so do not know how the compact compares

I hate the grip size on my glock 19, not sure how it compares to the compact m and P but do you feel like you have enough purchase to get a good grip on the compact?

Compact grip size is very similar to the G19. If you got big hands you might not get enough real estate

I recommend you find a gun shop that will let you fit check the compact and full-size side by side. You'll also want to try out different palmswell sizes – they will make a difference in fit and feel.

My hands are just average (men's glove size large) and I prefer the extra grip length of a full-size M&P to comfortably get all three fingers wrapped around the frame. I also find the medium-large palmswell works best for me.

Pic is the full-size polymer Carry Comp with med-large palmswell and 17rd mag.
