Went to a new firearms store the other day. Told one of the workers I was looking for an M&P with a thumb safety. He pulled a pistol out of the counter. It had a thumb safety, flat trigger ( Glock like), ability to have optic installed and was a compact ( 15 round magazine). Bought it and took it to the range. Proceeded to chew the center of the bullseye out of the target. Not a tight group ( i shoot fast and do not attempt a tight group - more like tactical ); but everything was in the center of the bullseye. Pistol shot like a dream. I shoot a Glock to the left and have tried everything to correct that. Glock is now in safe M&P is not. Smith has done an excellent job on the M&P 2.0. Lower bore axis, better trigger, better rtf for grip. Now I am a read M&P fan boy!!!!

Another Thumbs Up

Similar experience with me. I have been shooting semi autos for over 60 years, many different brands, but was still very impressed with my recently purchased M&P 2.0 9mm Compact 4 inch Optic Ready with the flat trigger, just does everything right for me in the right size package.

I am waiting for them to come out with one in French blue. (Just kidding! :D) Actually, I keep telling myself I can’t buy any more pistols, especially plastic pistols, but the OR-compact 9 is tempting. Maybe Santa will bring one, if I trade/sell off a couple I’m not using. I’d like to buy a full-size OR M&P 2.0 .45, too, but I don’t think S&W makes them - yet. :o

I have a 1.0 Pro Series, and a 2.0 Metal, like them both very much.

Don't think I'll buy another unless they make one without a dustcover rail. I'll know if that happens when I see swine soaring in the sky.

I have tried to like the polymer handguns . I've probably had over a half dozzen different brands over the years and I got rid of them . I do have 2 1911's that I will keep . Those I enjoy and shoot just fine . Regards Paul

There is no question about it the 1911 has maintained a certain allure over the many decades. I confess that I switched over from my 3914TSW, CS9, Shield to a 1911 for a couple of years, but when S&W came out with the 2.0 Compact with all of the options that I really like with accuracy and super reliability, they lured me back to the S&W fold with that new 2.0 Optic Ready Compact.

Welcome, Viking. You didn't mention which caliber or model you were shooting- full size, compact?. Many of us have 2.0s (9mm, 10mm, .45, etc.), and I think we're all in agreement that they are extremely nice and accurate pistols to shoot.

Compact although I do have a lot of M&Ps both 1.0 and 2.0. I have them in 9mm and 45

I've resisted personal ownership of Tupperguns, although I've been issued a few and used them extensively in training police recruits. I finally bought a Sheild 2.0 in 45 and liked it so well I bought my wife one in 40 (she loves it)! Smith dun good!

Took some getting used to!

Same here...I'm a vintage revolver guy, so it took a while for me to warm up to polymer pistols. My first was a Glock 23 (a pre-ban .40 with large cap magazines) that I bought in 1995. But I just didn't like the feel or look of the Glocks, and didn't like .40 cal., so I traded it away. Next, in 2012, I bought a police trade-in M&P .45, but that was mostly stainless steel. Great pistol. Then, in 2015 my wife wanted a carry pistol, and chose a Glock 42 (.380). She, like me, decided she didn't like Glocks and soon traded it for a Ruger LCR .22 Magnum with laser sight (she's not a big fan of recoil or hard to rack slides). In 2016 I bought a new SIG P226 9mm SAO Legion, but it's mostly a SS pistol, too. It's one of my favorite handguns and shoots extremely well. I bought my first M&P Performance Center Shield 9 in 2017 for EDC, loved it, but upgraded to a PC Shield Plus 9 in 2021. It's still one of my two EDC handguns. In 2020 I was competing in Action Steel and USPSA, and decided to purchase a SIG P320X5 Legion. I truly love this gun...it's a polymer pistol although it has the tungsten infused polymer frame. When COVID hit and most ammo was nonexistent, I bought a Taurus TX22 in 2021 for competition practice because I had plenty of .22. Fun pistol to shoot, and everyone needs a .22! Last but not least, a couple of months ago I traded in my older M&P .45 for a new M&P 10mm 2.0. So far, it's been a hoot to shoot with no F2Fs or other issues, and I installed a Holosun 507c red dot and a Nightstick 850XL light. I made quite a few vintage revolver purchases during this same period and there's no way that these polymer pistols will replace my love of wheelguns, but I have to say that I have gotten used to these polymer guns and enjoy shooting them.

m&p 2.0 is superior to glock in every way, i don't understand why this is some kind of secret. i think glock might be pulling some strings or are better at marketing and brand recognition.

You hit the nail on the head. While the M&P line far surpasses Glocks in many ways, Glock did an excellent job as you indicate of "marketing and brand recognition".

Great choice, and great shootin'. Load up on spare 15 rd mags before you can't get any more. I have the full size 9mm 2.0 and love it.

true..but unlike Glock, S&W dragged its *** when it came to getting a 10mm M&P to market. So you can add "paying attention to the market" to the list of reasons for Glock's success.
Not complaining about the late arrival of the M&P 10, I like the XDm 10 so much that the G29 was sold off within a week of buying the XDm.

I think another reason for Glock's success is that they cornered the LEO market years ago. And you can't refute the ruggedness and dependability of a Glock pistol. A lot of shooters like to mimic what law enforcement and/or the military shoot, so Glocks continue to sell. Glock continues to dominate the LEO market because they have buy back programs and other price incentives and low cost contracts to keep the police departments coming back. However, there are other manufacturers (SIG, S&W, Walther, etc.) that are making inroads into LE departments, so we'll see what the future brings.

I like Glock pistols well enough. My last couple of issued duty pistols were Glocks. That said, I strongly prefer my M&P’s, particularly the M2.0 versions. To me, Smith & Wesson is just THE handgun company. I know others feel differently, and there really isn’t a ton of difference among any of them these days. I just prefer the S&W logo/name to be on my firearms. Simple as that.

No question S&W continues to be a trusted handgun company. I love mine, most of all my trusty M-39.

Hahaha 🤣 Pigs on the wing;:D I’m really trying to find a reason to buy an M&P in 9mm. Sold mine years ago. Liked it but….. is the metal version as good as it going to get or just go 1911? Not trying to offend anyone. Thanks

Today I got to paw a new metal M&P. I liked it more than I thought I would. Balance felt good. The grip texture was a bit aggressive, for me at least. Told me that with the finish, the grips helped keep it in hand better. Will watch for additional models to be announced before committing. I’m interested at least. Can’t say that about many new entry’s lately.
