If you haven't tried a fantastic plastic yet you may be surprised by what they offer. I, too, was a bit slow to the party and still love my revolvers, 1911's and 3rd gens along with 39's...but I also really like my M&P's. I wouldn't dream of trying to alter or "upgrade" any of my older stuff (mostly because they don't need it and there are few options) but enjoy personalizing my M&P's. Not that they need it either but it's fun and easy to do with lots of options available. Triggers, optics, suppressors, ect.
I have a couple of M&P's that are bone stock that are my carry guns. If they were to end up lost to an evidence room they are easily replaced. If I lost my 3954 I would not forgive myself!
Then there is the 2.0 metal. Absolutely great gun! I don't hold it as close as my older stuff but it's my favorite M&P so far.

I’ve lost count of the number of M&Ps I’ve owned, both gens. Being an old 1911 guy (50+ years with them) I like the same manual of arms so I will soon be taking ownership of nib 2.0 4” Compact with the thumb safety.
Every one I’ve owned has been 100% reliable and incredibly accurate. Simply-I like them

My SIL is a police officer and this past summer they changed from aa.40 Glock to 9mm. They immediately had a much easier time getting all their people qualified. There are a very high % of cops who are not gun people and the .40 kick was a problem. I asked if they had considered going to another gun make. He said no. The trade-in deals as well as the basic price that Glock offers is almost impossible to beat. Then ad in the need for all new holsters as well as almost no need for additional training and it is just to advantageous to stay w/ Glock.

I am looking at the Smith equalizer or a Beretta M9 which I shot in the Marines. I have a few weeks before my permit arrives so I have time to decide. I also was weary of polymer guns but I own a few and no real issues at all the recoil in the new smiths are very little due to the hammer and light recoil spring needed. J

I was thinking the same thing..
Well, they got me. My Shield 45 produced the best groups on the 3, 7, and 10 yard firing line at CCL quals a couple of weeks ago, and there was some expensive iron on the line!
Expensive does not always win the day nor can it make up for a lack of skill.
But a really accurate tool can make even an old goat look good!

I'm with you on the 1911's and I've had a few M&P's as well but I just can't warm up to the M&P's. I picked up a 2.0, 4" Compact with the thumb safety and just don't care much for it. At the recommendations of others I installed an Apex flat trigger which made a huge difference but I still am not a fan. I think I will be sticking with 1911's.

When I’m at work, & bored I’ll open up a 3rd Gen Glock, & a M&P 1st Gen gun, compare the insides of both, & ask myself “who copied who here”. GARY
