Hi fellas,

I'm in the market for a new .45 pistola to carry. Been doing the research and see that a lot of folks swear by the 4566TSW.

I need a 4566TSW afficionado to take a look at the pics below, please, and tell me if this 4566TSW is one of the older ones that came without the rail OR if it originally had a rail that has been removed.

Or how about this: What's the overall story on this 4566TSW?

Also, it appears to be mint. What would you think is a fair price for this one. It comes with night sights, 3 mags, box, papers.

Thank y'all,

phnx

This clearly did have the rail and it was removed by the S&W factory. Those are the special black plugs they fill the rivit holes with.

As to value.....$500 would be very fair. $600would be reasonable. I would say the $500 - $600 range for a used, vg-excellent condition 4566TSW is about right.

Thanks for the answer, teditrading.

I've heard (read actually) some guys knock the railed version of the 4566TSW saying the early ones without the rails are better becaue they are easier to find a hoslter for and carry.

Is this the only reason some knock it or are there other "problems" with the railed version?

Is the one pictured above the best of both worlds then in that there is no rail but one can be added if desired?

Or sre there other "problems" with this configuraion which would allow for a rail to be added but doesn't have one attached?

I have a pre-rail 4006 and 4003. I find I like the looks of the pistol without the rail, but it doesn't affect reliability. Any TSW series will be a good 3rd gen auto to shoot. The thing about the holsters, just means that you have to have a different holster for a tsw than a non-tsw series. There are plenty of hoslters for both lines.
