I mean no disrespect toward your home state; however, when I hear these complaints about overly restrictive firearms laws and procedures in these liberal states, I often wonder how long the waiting period is in the outgoing lanes on the interstate leaving the state, because that is where I would be.

Try NY you go to the gun shop show them your permit, buy you gun get a receipt bring that to you county center fill out pages of paperwork. Now you wait approx 2 wks If the judge decides you can have another gun they amend your license, back to gun shop more paperwork, only then can you pick-up the gun you paid for wks. earlier. This is for EVERY Handgun you purchase

SD357 & Steve638,

And you live in those states because???????????????

10 years ago I went on a nationwide job search. My wife was not working at the time so she did most of the online searching. I gave her a list of "Don't even bother" states, based on their totalitarian gun laws. CA & NY were on the top of that list.

I ask this in a totally serious manner and it is not meant to insult you. How does this kind of **** get passed and be allowed to stand in places like NY or CA? Is it b/c those states are full of bed wetting progressives? People just do not care?

Can you enlighten me? again I seriously can't get my mind around it. I seriously cannot imagine having the State absolutely violating my Constitutional rights, nor choosing to live there. I can understand your whole family being there and your staying, I've also been to upstate NY and know it's beautiful, but it still has the same lousy laws. If this kind of stuff were passed on a Friday in the South, angry men with torches would be in the capitals on Monday AM.....I just do not get it.

SD357, sorry about your situation... Vote 'em out of office!

One of the concepts of the 10 Day Waiting Period was to allow a "cooling off" period. This was to keep me from buying a gun in a fit of anger and then shooting someone with it.

Now, if I already own a handgun in a sufficent caliber to kill someone, do I still have to wait 10 days for the next one? If the answer is yes, then you know the true reason for these laws. Here is a hint: It is not to "cool off", but rather to oppress your right to have a firearm and goes way beyond anything the federal government could legally get away with.

I guess you could say I'm not CA compliant.

Again, sorry about your wait.

Edmo

Ridiculous to live in a state with those laws. Especially considering every criminal out there has a gun.

My only complaint here in Florida is the 3 day wait is 3 BUSINESS DAYS (excluding holidays). If you buy a gun on Friday, you have to wait until the following Thursday to pick it up.

Now, granted I am exempt from this, having a CCP, but for the average Joe, it's silly. It ends up being a 6 day waiting period unless you buy on a Monday or Tuesday (and your store is open on Saturday).

Upstate NY and NYC are worlds apart . NYC is liberal anti gun, The mayor (Bloomberg) is the worst of them 6 million people live in the 5 boroughs and the libs outnumber the rest of us, so they rule the roost. That why I purchased my retirement home in SC.

Weighing in.... from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.... I thought we were tight until I read some of the horror stories here. Short time back... 3-4 weeks, walked into a gun shop after looking on-line.... bought Ruger 22-45 with red dot... paid the man. filled out the form... waited 7 minutes while he did the check... in and out in 35 minutes...

Two weeks before that did the same when I bought my M&P 15-22 at another shop.

I am a CA native, moved away for good 7 years ago, and lived there in the era in which all these laws were passed. There was serious voter apathy; I recall someone doing a survey at one of the major gun shows in the late 1990s at which voter registration among attendees was in the single digit range! A couple of terms of anti-gun Governors (including the last, nominally (R) one) and legislatures, and everyone got to kiss their usual gun rights good-bye; and if certain northeastern states are any indication, permanently. A truly sad situation.

With this Trevon Martin thing in Florida, who knows where this will go. Hopefully this one incident dont turn us into some anti-gun state.

There are ways for a CA resident to minimize the gun law problems, etc. Get a Certificate of Eligibility ( COE ) from the DOJ and you don't have a waiting period - buy the gun , pay the bill, and walk. No 10 day wait, for either a handgun or a long gun. Ed.

I ask this in total seriousness. How did the president get elected? The answer is the same, we were out voted. Where's the angry men with torches? Get it now?

That's not the same thing.....a talking orange could have gotten elected if it said I'm not a George Bush Republican, nor did he say he planned on running rough shod over the Constitution and propose a bunch of that kind of stuff prior to the election....and most importantly, we in the South did not elect him. That's a left coast and Northeast thing.
