2013 ammo shortage coming to an end?

The local Wal-Mart has been having quite a bit of ammo on hand lately - .22LR, 9MM, .38, .380, .357, .223, .40S&W, etc. You name it.

A local outdoor store called Herb Phillipsons was bursting at the seams with ammo this past weekend. The only thing they didn't have was .22LR. They were well stocked with everything else. They even had several 350 count bulk packs of 9MM & .40S&W.

It seems this ammo shortage garbage is getting better, hopefully will end soon.

Many people have said in a condescending way that everybody "Should have learned their lesson in 2008!". Unfortunately for people like me, I didn't do very much shooting in 2008. In fact, the only guns I had in 2008 were my .22LR rifle, my .30-06 deer rifle, and an old 20Ga. bolt shotgun (the shotgun is retired). I didn't get into handguns until last year.
The only guns I fired in 2008 were the .22 and the '06. I shot them so little that all I ever knew was to empty one box of ammo and simply go buy another.
There was no lesson for me to learn in 2008. I didn't do enough shooting to learn a lesson back then. I had to learn my lesson here in 2013, and I did learn the lesson. I (within reason) will stock up, and I won't be caught short again.

Lots of Guns here but still no ammo to speak of. 22LR is unheard of. Kinda like the 380 auto was 4+ years ago.

Not here in VA. My 3 WM around have no pistol calibers, no 22s and no 223s or AKs ammo. All I can see in ammo case is notice that you can only buy 3 boxes and some hunting rifle ammo (like 7mm or 300) and some shells. Pretty much nothing changed since january.

Ammo still sparse here in my area too. WM this morn-sold out by 6:30 AM-Academy had all kinds of 22, 45, .357 9mm etc, I called and they had 30-- 325 rd .22 packs, about 200 of the 100 rounds packs and about 500 of the 50 round packs. By the time I got there-in less than an hour after calling-they were out of the 325 and 100 round packs-and had one box of 50 left-so-I snagged it along with a 100 round pack of 9mil.

As far as the 2008 election, the day was a good day for me.

It's good to see more supply getting into the stores. It's still sparse in my area, but not nearly what's it's been. .22 continues to be scarce, but more rifle ammo is showing up (including .223), as well as 9mm.

As far as lessons learned, I think we all now see how quickly panic buying can occur, and how fast ammo supply channels dry up, more so than in the past. As overall supply begins to satisfy demand, it will be prudent to start accumulating for the inevitable future shortages. Not in massive bulk purchases necessarily, but simply a few boxes here and there on a regular basis. Heck, a brick of .22 per month would add up to a nice stockpile of ~5000-6000 rounds by this time next year.

What I've gotten confirmation on is that a random criminal act that makes the front pages can set off a nationwide frenzy. Talk to anyone who paid $2,000 + for a basic AR in January or February, or the folks who ponied up $1,000 + for generic WASR AKs. As prices continue to drop and normalize, it presents a buying opportunity for those who want to acquire a firearm (handgun or long gun) that is at the top of the anti crowd's list.

Yesterday WM hat a few 12ga. a few 270 and a small amount of tullammo steel case 762x39 and 223. I got 3 boxes of slug 15rd each for $12 or so a piece. Aint over here.

My Walmart never had any when I come around but that's because I don't go early in the morning, at least not that early. Day before yesterday I took a look because I was there to get a part for my sis's toilet and I saw 5 50rd boxes of WWB 40sw FMJs. 4 were 180s and one 165. I grabbed the 165 for $18.99.

Not a bad deal and I'm so tempted to hit the range.

There is NO ammo in NY reliably available. I do NOT expect it to be available for at least 6 months. After that the government limits how much we can buy. If we buy too much the state police can visit our homes. However, TOO much is NOT defined in the statute.

Also, all ammo purchases require a background check call to albany. However the national NIC system cannot be used. ONLY a NY system. if the approval process takes 5-10 minutes per call. How much will ammo cost when a persons time making the background check must be added on to each purchase?

ALSO if the amount of ammo is limited and you can't buy in bulk shooting costs might go up too.

Here in NW Georgia the ammo drought wasn't nearly as bad as elsewhere. My shop never ran out of anything except .22LR and that was very brief. 50 rd. boxes of .22LR are abundant now with Thunderbolt going for $5.50/50 rds and CCI standard velocity going for $7.50/50 rds. 100 rd boxes of CCI standard velocity are a little harder to keep in stock but not out more than a day before I have more of them at $14.50/100 rds. Bricks of 555 rds. are selling for $49.50 when I can get them and the rare bucket of 1000 rds. is fetching $89.50.........additionally, 1000 rd bricks of 9mm UMC FMJ never ran dry at $339.50

Visited my local WM yesterday and only found shotgun shells also. Shelves were basically bare, and the WM employee told me he hasn't seen any 22lr in a long time.

You will see lots of instances where ammo is sitting on the shelves in places where it is impossible to obtain a gun and bare shelves in places where people have guns. An attempt to ban as loonies the people who scream ammo shortage when the blue states take TV cameras into the stores and show fully stocked shelves.

A plan like that would fail to take into consideration places like where I live where it is overwhelmingly Red, but Albany and NYC cause an entire state to appear Blue.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was/is a directive. Time for the NRA to start making their own ammo.

Oh and, Academy Sports and Outdoors in my area has been getting in pallets-loads fo ammo--still normally sells out in a short time but--yesterday--I saw loads of diff stuff left-however, almost nothing I was looking for. I managed to get a 100 round pack of American Eagle 9mil-and ONE box of 50 green box .22--I think I paid around $35 for the ammo? Not sure since I bought other stuff too ;-))

Just today at Wm--they had a lot of stuff in-almost nothing i wanted. Completely our of 22 as usual--but did have quite a few boxes of Winchester "white box" 9mil and a few boxes of .45. I wanted to buy some but couldnt find the ammo guy and i had to skedaddle for an appointment. However, while I was leaving-one of the Ladies who works the area told me some 22 and 9mil will be in Friday. Im getting good tips--just not able to get there in time.
