2013 ammo shortage coming to an end?

Oh and, Academy Sports and Outdoors in my area has been getting in pallets-loads fo ammo--still normally sells out in a short time but--yesterday--I saw loads of diff stuff left-however, almost nothing I was looking for. I managed to get a 100 round pack of American Eagle 9mil-and ONE box of 50 green box .22--I think I paid around $35 for the ammo? Not sure since I bought other stuff too ;-))

Just today at Wm--they had a lot of stuff in-almost nothing i wanted. Completely our of 22 as usual--but did have quite a few boxes of Winchester "white box" 9mil and a few boxes of .45. I wanted to buy some but couldnt find the ammo guy and i had to skedaddle for an appointment. However, while I was leaving-one of the Ladies who works the area told me some 22 and 9mil will be in Friday. Im getting good tips--just not able to get there in time.

Well, it is December 2013 and WM and Dunam's still never seem to have any 22LR ammo. I would have hoped the horders would have gotten their fill by now. I hope things improve 2014.

I agree the 2013 ammo shortage is coming to an end. Unfortunately the 2014 ammo shortage is just around the corner. There are still very few signs of .22LR in this area, and what little does trickle in is quickly gobbled up. I have not seen any on the shelves in a very, very long time.

But anyway you view it, the 2013 ammo shortage is coming to an end. In just a couple of weeks it will be 2014 and we'll have an entire new year to complain about the ammo shortage. The ammo makers will still lie and tell us its not their fault. But we still won't have ammo even at the higher pries.

Except for ".22 CB Longs" I'm actually pretty well stocked for my other my ammo needs....I was lucky enough to have a good supply of all other rounds on hand before the shortage hit.

I use the CB Longs for pest control ---- ie... squirrels and crows in my bird feeders. As the CB rounds are not as big a seller as regular .22 rimfire ammo I'm afraid I could run out before these are readily available again. :(

I'll have to agree with you. My local Academy is one delivery away from empy shelves. 22lr is scarce as is 9mm. One can forget about 357mag as its rarer than 22lr or 22mag.

Wow!

I'm surprised by these new responses. I posted this thread six months ago, and things around here have been steadily improving since then.
It seems that things are almost back to normal around here - except .22LR and .357 Mag target ammo - those are still hit & miss, but they are coming into stores frequently.

I'm sorry to hear that things are still screwed up elsewhere.

I got a 1K box of Federal M855 and 4 Wallyboxes 550 rd .22lr for $500 this past week. This was from a person who bought them to flip for a profit. Free market economy is awesome when left unmolested. Joe

Any far sighted individual will start learning how to reload and when non reloadable ammo becomes available, buy a little extra every time you buy for the range. The next cycle is going to be far worse than this one. I probably won't see it but my 40 year old son will. The 2nd Amendment will be up for grabs this century!

Local, WW is still shy but some of the bigger stores, Academy, Bass Pro, Cabelas, etc all seem to have a good supply of most things.

I have been reloading for over 35 years and am in good shape. The components like powder and primers are starting to show up. Saw a bunch at the gunshow yesterday but still pricey.

Found jacketed or copper coated bullets during the shortage and when I did, I would buy 500 at a pop. It also helped when I cast bullets.

All in all, if you reload, then this shortage didn't hurt very much.

Not here in VA. My 3 WM around have no pistol calibers, no 22s and no 223s or AKs ammo. All I can see in ammo case is notice that you can only buy 3 boxes and some hunting rifle ammo (like 7mm or 300) and some shells. Pretty much nothing changed since january.

Nothing around here either. Best ammo available is in my ammo locker. All loaded and ready to go. :D

Same feelings here. WM is still more miss than hit, and Academy is the same now. They told me that their new store that just opened up in Portland (which is just across the causeway and a few miles away) is getting the lions share of 22 and 9mm. I was told that because they are using it as a draw to that new location. Truth or not? I dont know.

Not sure how much ammo is or isn't on shelves around here. I don't go out much to look for ammo because for so long there wasn't any. I did check at WM (in a different suburb) and they had a little of most calibers except............. 22lr. NONE. Plus they were still enforcing the three box limit.

Since Im not in a big hurry I will continue to hoard benjamins until ammo is available and reasonable in price. Then Ill lay in a supply of some quantity.

Funny when people talk about money it is called saving. When people talk about ammo it is called hoarding. When people talk about guns its called collecting.

I call all three just good common sense.

Dammit, late to the punchline again! :(

If you want a fun conspiracy theory, how about this one?

The gov't hasn't yet been able to get ammo permits/registry working, even in deep-blue Cali - - they almost did, but it was vetoed by the governor - - so they realize they have no way to track cash ammo sales.

But the NSA is all tooled up to track everything done on the intrawebs these days.

That'd be why the attempt to outlaw interstate ammo sales by mail/internet suddenly fell off the radar, too. Somebody was "got to" by those in charge & brought to heel.

(Que ominous music)

   :D

mid Michigan still hard to find some calibers 22lr,9mm,380,40.!762x39 is in stock and 223 556!i also learned from this ammo crisis i used to buy what i was going to shoot and keep't very little for home defense when this started i had 50 rounds of 22lr and 60 762x39!lesson learned!;)

I hate to tell all you guys who trash Dick's and Gander Mountain but they have been pretty reliable and competitively priced sources for most of my ammo needs (incl. .22lr) for the past couple of months.

Cheaper than what's posted on the .22lr thread and in line with Cabelas, etc.

Well, was at a gun show in Fredericksburg yesterday and there seemed like there was no shortage, but then I REALLY WASN't looking at prices for loaded ammo. Saw primers at $23/1000, so seems like prices are coming down some.

My solution to the ammo shortage. At least for now. The Laser Lyte target and 9mm laser. The other stuff is the rest of the birthday swag from my wife.

It's actually pretty good for practicing grip, sight alignment, and trigger pull on my 3rd gen semi autos without going out into the cold and without expending a lot of ammunition.

And I still get to say "***?" when my groups aren't tight!

A little yes, a lotta no

Our fair city is the birthplace and national headquarters of Bass Pro shops, and we are only 90 minutes from WalMart's national headquarters and and a major distribution center.

BP gets .22 in several times a week, but I have not caught any in stock for quite a while. Our local WM's have had .223 continuously in stock for weeks now. 9 mm rarely lasts overnight, .22 is gone in hours (or minutes) at BP, WM, and Academy (think Dick's) Sports.

So while I agree things may be loosening up - the shortage, she ain't no where close to being over!
